1965 Chevrolet Impala Caprice * 396 * 47k Miles * Factory AC * Power Seat
1965 Chevrolet Caprice Caprice Description
I am selling this gorgeous 1965 Caprice 396 for my mom, from my dad’s estate. My dad was an avid vintage Chevrolet collector. He was also a technical adviser for the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America.
1965 was the first year Chevrolet produced the Caprice, offered as aa Caprice Custom Sedan option package (RPO Z18) on the 1965 Chevrolet Impala 4-door hardtop. It became a separate model in subsequent years.
CAR INFORMATION:- 396 Big Block, 325 HP
- 47,000 verified original miles (see car history below)
- Matching numbers
- Automatic transmission
- Power seat
- Power steering
- Power brakes
- Factory AC that has been converted to R32

CAR CONDITION:- Runs great. No known mechanical problems.
- Repainted in car’s original factory color “Madeira Maroon” with base coat / clear coat in summer of 2009.The car shines beautifully in the sun.
- The only flaws I see in the paint are a couple of very small pin-head sized chips that you can't see unless really looking intently for them.
- Small gash in the chrome low down on the front bumper. Not noticeable unless looking for it.
- Original seats and headliner in good condition with some light stains that look to be removable (see photos).
- Driver's seat has a gash in it on the side down by the power seat control (see photos).
- Dash in good condition. No cracks in the vinyl. Normal wear on steering wheel, knobs, etc (see photos).
- New carpet was installed in factory Sandalwood, Saddle, Dark Saddle to replace the black 80-20 loop carpet
- Installed new trunk floor mat. No rust.
- Rebuilt front end: springs, ball-joints, bushings.
- Replaced alternator relay
- New tires
- The emblem on the back of the car says "Impala SS." Other 65s I've seen have a Caprice emblem on the back. My dad was very picky about restoring his cars back to original, so I don't have an explanation for that. I don't know if some of the early Caprice package Impalas used the Impala emblems, or whether it had the wrong emblem when my dad bought it and he had been searching for the original Caprice emblem and hadn't found one. I know that he wouldn't have removed the original emblem and replaced it with something incorrect.
CAR HISTORY
The car was originally purchased new at Rydell Chevrolet in Grand Forks, ND. The original owner then traded it back to Rydell Chevrolet on a new car in about 1990, and my dad purchased the car from Rydell at that time and was the second owner. The dealership verified that the mileage was correct based on their service records for the car from the time it was purchased new to when it was traded in.
My dad bought the car as a collector car and it has always been stored inside and only occasionally driven to car shows.
