1956 Chevrolet Bel Air/150/210 Belair Description

Please read the description for the details. I know it's boring, but, if you just look at the pics you'll miss some things!
Here is Sleeping Beauty, a 1956 Belair that had been tucked away for over 40 Years. It was sometime in late 1977,early `78, when she was taken off the road, and the work started. The original plan was for her to be turned into a pro-street car. So, it is at this time, I'd like to let you know that the rear of the car has been "tubbed" and the trunk floor replaced with flat steel. Thankfully, these are the only severe modifications to the car. It was after the floor work, when she was disassembled and all the body panels were stripped and primed. She was painted its current color sometime between 1980-82. Eventually, like most other projects, the work stalled and she was off to a new home sometime in 1984. This is where she slept comfortably, until I purchased her in 2015. I left her napping for another year before I started to piece her back together. Her body is still wearing most of it's original sheetmetal. The only evidence of any type of sheetmetal work was a right headlight brow repair, that was found during reassembly. Now, I have no knowledge of the time frame of this repair, except for the obvious "sometime before paint". Other than that, there are no other patch panels on this car. The rest of the body is clean, unmolested 1956 steel. She is a excellent example of a survivor 1956 Chevy. She is not pristine, but that's not to say that she's not an attention grabbing beauty. There is a front bumper but we elected to leave it off to further the "old-school" vibe that emanates from her. The bumper will come with the sale. There are some scratches and paint chips, but please keep in mind that she's been sitting for 4 decades. She's no different than the rest of us, she's gotten a few bumps and bruises. Does it detract from her look? I don't think so. I thought (and still think) it lends a very honest telling of her history. Should they be fixed? Maybe, but for now they serve as further evidence as to the legitimacy of her story.
The original frame had started to be cut up for the narrowing of the rear and was not completed. We talked about finishing up the work on the pro-street frame, since it was again gaining popularity, but we wanted to pay homage to her originality, her surviving. We decided to take her back to what she was. So for her vintage style, an alternate stock chassis was found and reworked. It is all stock for the era, so this means 4 wheel drum brakes. The entire brake system was rebuilt and new lines installed. The steering is old school manual, but it's tight, feels good and turns very well for being non-power. Shocks are new and the springs have been replaced. The ride is nice for an original '56, not perfect but nice. She is as close as you can get too what it would be like driving back in '56. The drivetrain is the "old reliable" 350 c.i.d engine, TH400 auto transmission combo. The motor is a 1973 date code 010 block, with an "RV" cam. This is an old build engine, with very little run time. It was built for another project that got sidelined. It has an Edelbrock aluminum intake with an Edelbrock carb. The ignition is the points type distributor with the Pertronix conversion. When the new wiring harness was installed we switched to an internal regulated alternator. Full length headers and a dual exhaust that stop just before the rearend with turndowns, it makes for a very mellow, nice sound without being too obnoxious. This is a very nice, subtle, well mannered driver as it sits.

Interior is where she kind of loses a bit of her "originality". However, we did leave the stock front seat since it is original to the car. It was recovered sometime in her past, but the original material along with the side covers (which are in fantastic shape), are still on the seat. While we're on the seat subject, due to the "tub", there is currently no back seat in the car. An original back seat can be made to fit, but not without some modifications. The carpet is a new Black molded one piece, that fits very well. The door panels, rear panels, package panel and the rear panel between the tubs are all new. The panels are all custom made and inspired by the `56's unique trim design. There was no weatherstripping on the car in the pictures, but does have all new door and trunk weatherstripping now. Some of you may have noticed the headliner, or more the lack of. I figured if she hits the right price, we'd put one in! What is the "Right Price" you may ask? Well, I suppose that I'm not much different than anyone else, I'm not sure. Now to the "Buy it Now". We put that in for those who are in the " I really like the car but just wish they hadn't done that to the floors" camp. If you click that button, we will schedule the car for a teardown and on the rotisserie she'll go. We'll replace the floors with a full one piece front floor, Inner and Outer wheel houses and trunk floor. Also included will be re-foaming and reupholstering of the front seat as well as finding, fitting, re-foaming and reupholstering a rear seat. If the buyer prefers stock type door panels, we'll replace the current ones with a stock appearing new set. A front disc brake, with a rack and pinion conversion will also be part of the Buy it Now.
