1962 Chevrolet Bel Air/150/210 Description

This is a very solid project car from Nevada. It is basically a blank slate for someone with a build plan that does not want to pay for a finished car that hascostlyitems that will be discarded. The guy before me planned on making it a race car for drag racing at the track. I bought it with the idea of putting a straight axle under the front end and making a nostalgia gasser out it. After looking at how the original frame is configured up front, I decided I was getting in over my head with that idea, so I am moving on. The car was not drivable when I purchased it. I have gotten it the point where it can be driven, but not legally, on the street by no means. Please read the following very carefully before you considerer buying this car.
BODY: THE BAD: The original autumn gold paint was cooked off of it by the Nevada sun. It was evidently leftoutside down there with the windows down so the lower foot areas of the floor pans filled with rain water and rust holes formed. ( drivers side is OK ) There are numerous dents and dings. One area in front of the rightrear wheel well has had a repair panel replaced, and there is still just one little rust hole in front of that repair work on the rocker. See pictures.THE GOOD: It has originalpaint so there is nohidden body work. The area in front of the rear wheel well was replaced with a metalreplacement paneland skim coatedonly with filler. Looks to be done properly, but needs finishing. The following areas are very solid /straightand need very little work to be perfect: Both doors, left front fender, left rear quarter panel, hood, and roof. The bumpers are good driver quality. All stainless trim is excellent. All pot metal pieces and script is very nice with no pitting except the rear trunk " Chevrolet " script. It is cracked into 3 pieces. Included is a new reproduction one for a replacement. The chrome around the vent windows is great with no pitting. The front grille has a small dent. Headlight bezels are good.Tail lightbezels are good. Glass is all good and side windows roll up anddown. Doors close great. Bottom of doors have no rust. The underside is very dry and solid with only surface rust. ( except for the 3 floor pan areas mentionedearlier) All body mounts, seatbraces, and floor bracings are solid. Inner rockers and inner rear quarters are solid.
INTERIOR: Not much to say here. The seat material is shot from the sun and rain. Seat frames, tracks, and springs appear to be very good. Door panels are missing but the hard to find metal tops for them are in the trunk. Dash and all interior metal trim were painted shitty blue at some point. Needs to be redone, but it is all there, including the headliner bows. The complete wiring needs to be replacedbecauseof age, but itcomes with a brand new complete after market wiring harness. NO LIGHTS WORK AT THIS TIME. I wired the carjust to make itdrivable and nothing more.
MECHANICS: I was told the 350 Engine and 350 Turbo trans have both been rebuilt. That appears to be true, but I cannot swear to that. It starts right up and drives out nice, but without brake lights, I have not taken it very far. The prior owner planned on running abloweron the engine which is why it has the blower belt and pulleys on it. Although I do notknowwhat the specifics of the engine are, I do not think it is much more than a mild street type of build. No radical cam sound or high end heads, etc. It holds about 40 lbs of oil pressureafter warm up. The transmission shifts fine and hesaidit has a 3000 stalltorque converter. It has stainless steel headers, but no other exhaust. Just open headers. It has a new 4 corealuminum radiator with dual electric fans. I was told the original fuel line has a leak, so I just installed thetemporary boat fuel tank to be able to drive it. I did not want to take a chance of a fire since I was going to run afuel cell in place of the original tank anyway. It has all new brakes on all 4 corners and some new brake lines. It has 4 brand new tires. The front suspension feels tight but it will need all new shocks. It has a new TCI Outlaw transmission shifter. It works great but it will still need a final adjustment once the your desired seat type is decided on. It has a new heavy duty onepiece drive shaft connected to thestock rear end. It was originally a 6 stick car and thepedal assembly and rods are still in place if you want to make it a 4 speed car.
All in all, this is a very solid old car that would make a great track car or weekend cruiser. It is hard to find these old Biscaynes that have not been restored already, or in such asolidcondition that they can still berestoredrelatively easy. Acomplete interior kit including seat covers, head liner, carpet, and 4 doorpanels is only around $2400.00 for this car.
