1950 CHEVROLET SHORT SCHOOL BUS: HOT RAT ROD GASSER KUSTOM PANEL WAGON PROJECT
1950 Chevrolet Other BUS Description
1950 CHEVROLET SHORT SCHOOL BUS
This is a cool old bus. It would be a great bus for an RV conversion, vending/food truck, push rig/tow rig, harley hauler, rod bus, or? The body is in nice shape and the bus runs good. The bus is 22' long. I do have a clear title. Feel free to ask questions. I can help arrange shipping if needed. I have more pics I can send since only 24 fit on here. Thanks.
MECHANICAL
The bus has a 235 inline six cylinder. It is most likely the original engine but I have not checked any numbers. This has the 4-speed manual. The bus runs really nice. It is smooth and quiet. It does not smoke at all. It does not tick or knock and has no major leaks. New fuel pump. Fuel tank was drained and flushed. The transmission works great. The clutch engages fully but the pedal doesn't come up all the way every time. This has a clutch pedal mount is sticky. It's a greasable pivot point for the clutch pedal and is just sticky from setting. The clutch works fine but I would get that fixed before driving it far to make sure the clutch isn't "riding". You can pull it up with your toe though. It needs to be taken off and cleaned but it looks easy. I just didn't get to it. All gears work and the clutch doesn't slip or shake. The brakes work but the master cylinder leaks. It needs replaced or rebuilt. The parking brake works also. The gauges work and it runs cool and has very good oil pressure. The headlights work. Some of the signals work and some don't. I'm guessing it needs some bulbs. This bus does have the old style foot-engaged starter. Overall the bus is very mechanically sound and will need no major mechanical work. I would recommend a full tuneup, fluids flushed and changed, and the brakes checked out before driving it very far. I can help arrange shipping if needed and I've shipped many larger vehicles like this.
BODY
The body is in nice shape. It is rust free for the most part but it has a couple spots. The passenger side inner cowl is rusted at the bottom. This is very common for the 1947-1954 gm bodystyle. All the patch panels are sold new and are cheap. The floorpan had rusted in the front also. I think a couple of the front floorpans were removeable, but they are gone regardless and need to be replaced. These floorpans are also reproduced and cheap also. I put a piece of particle board in there temporarily. There is no other rust-through. The frame and floor supports are nice. The roof has no holes cut in it. Body panes, hood, fenders, doors, etc. don't have any rust-through. There is filler in a couple spots that is old and chipping off. Nothing major, just a couple old dents that weren't fixed as good as they could have been. I do have the rear bumper and brackets. The bumper is bent up but I'll include it. The rear corners have metal pieces that go around the corner at the bottom. These aren't there to hide rust. They were put on from the bus builder and they are just bent up abit. I didn't try all the windows but the ones I tried did open/close. Both doors operate as they should. Overall, the body is in nice shape and will be an easy one to restore.
INTERIOR
There is very little interior to speak of. The drivers seat looks original and the gauge area and switches are in decent shape. The temp gauge, oil pressure gauge, headlights, and heater fan work. There are alot of other bus switches, probably for different lights, that I didn't check. I'm sure all that should be checked out or disconnected. It's a blank slate. I can send some pics of similar buses with tastefull RV conversions done or restored as rods or rat rods. There are some neat ones out there.
Overall, it's a cool old bus and the possibilities are endless. These are great for RV conversions because the roofs on these old buses don't leak and are nearly indestructable. You can have 4 feet of snow on it and they won't cave in. Thanks, and happy bidding. This vintage chevy is 70 years old and sold as-is. Title will be mailed via priority mail after payment is received. Please read payment requirements.
