1988 Corvette with 2001 LS1 and T-56 6 speed
1988 Chevrolet Corvette Description
First let me apologize to those who bid on this earlier this week. Too many errors that could not be corrected. I will try to be more concise this time about this build. There are so many things to list and lots of stuff that comes with it. This has been my project hot rod, street machine for the last 12 years. I started the project when the car had 156K miles, now it has 197K.So the last 40 thousand miles have been on a almost new 2001 LS1 / T56 combo out of a new Z-28 rollover. With big Tube MAC ceramic coated headers and a true 3" dual exhaust, with X pipe, hi-flow cats and dynomax race mufflers, as well as a K & N on a custom cold air intake. The engine is adapted to this car with aluminum engine mount adapters and runs a single serpentine belt system with 4 idler pulleys and a Samden Air compressor and steering pump all polished aluminum (although the polishing has been neglected in favor of driving) The T-56 6-speed is adapted to the corvette c frame to the rear by a custom machined adaptor I did myself. (I'm a mechanical engineer by trade and machined it myself) Right there totals up about 7K of parts and we've just started.Next was the adaptation of electronics. Just a aftermarket fuze block, and dakota digital speedometer adaptor and GM service manuals for the 2001 as well as the electrical manual for the 1988.Next is an Alpine CD/MP3 head unit with USB input, two Alpine amplifiers a F-240 for the 4 corners and a M-350 for the two 10" woofers in the back deck.Windows were just tinted very dark by the Specialist here in town with their best lifetime tint to try and keep the Arizona sun out. The dash is the start of the interior re-do with handmade aluminum plates you can see in the picture. Just had brushed eventually to be polished or anodized. The majority of the interior is still original as I haven't tackled them yet. Just some seat covers as the drivers seat has splits. The fuel system is a TRE 255lph pump with a brand new sending unit as the old one finally gave up last year. The pressure is controlled by an Aeromotive regulator that also supplies a return to the tank as the 2001 is a returnless system. Fuel lines were just replaced. The clutch is a hi-po Centerforce ceramic puck disc. Good for up to 600+ hp. I was easily spinning the stock LS clutch and burnt it up. The car has urethane bushings on everything and fairly new ball joints and ujoints on the shafts. (have a package of new ujoints that has not been opened. The tough Spicer ones are all I use.I spent a whole year painting this car and adding the ground effects and wing. Basecoat, on-fire metallic (from summit racing) airbrushed flames - orange-yellow-silver, ghosted over with more on fire metallic, and finally an Imron clear coat for a tough shiny finish. The paint is now about 3 years old so no longer perfect. You can only really see the flames in the sunshine. On to the recent brand new stuff. The tires are brand new BF Goodrich 275-40ZR-17's on all four corners. The one time I took this to the track last year (pic) it did exceptionally well and topped 135 on the straightaway. (motorsport track in Wilcox on the last set of BF's)The brakes were just done with crossdrilled/slotted rotors and ceramic pads. The shocks were also replaced this time with the silver series KYB's. Tires, shocks, brakes, and hood/hatch shocks are all new this month. So I have taken this project quite a ways. Alas I am getting on in years and it's time to pass it to some other engineer./ gearhead who can take it to the next level. If I had funds remaining I would replace the carpet and door panels, and get the seats re-upolstered. That stuff may not matter to you fast and furious types that want to rip them out for lighter aftermarket stuff. Checked out some really nice Sparco's and Recaro's here recently. Even though this car is old and there is stuff to do mostly everything works. I am looking to replace some of the 6-way power seat switches as some are broken but the seats still go forward and back. The cruise control was axed during the conversion. The AC works by two switches, one for compressor and the other for blower. The climate control panel is off. All other gauges work (digital KnightRider type speedo/tach/oil/temp) Flip up headlights, driving lights, turn signals, 4 corners all workingI prefer a local pickup but will help if you want to ship.Driving this car is a blast and you can't get anything this fast for this kind of money. I think this price is a steal when you understand that 20K went into the car with endless hours of work. Ask questions and I'll do my best to answer. Oh yeah, I use LS-Edit which is a really old antiquated program to eliminate VAT's and rear o2 sensors, skip shift and stuff like that. The fuel curves are still stock. I'll give you the LS edit program and cable if you want but there is much better stuff out there now. I will entertain offers but not sure I could bear to part with it for less
