1982 DeLorean Coupe Black Description

For sale is a 1981 Delorean, one of only 9000 +/- ever made. It is a true collectable, and one that you can get into for a reasonable price!. This car has low miles, starts & runs right away. This is a fantastic project car for someone with the time and experience to devote to it. Please take the time to study the pictures. Listed below is a very complete description to the best of my knowledge. Keep in mind this a36 year old car, and there will likely be other issues and challenges that I'm unaware of, having the car for only 6 weeks. This car is sold as-is, without any warranty.

Description:

Frame and body - This car has never seen road salt. It was used and stored in California and Texas. It's time here in Illinois has only been 6 weeks or so, and it's been in storage the whole time. The frame is nearlyrust free, and in very good shape. The body is very good shape as well, with the exception of the hood - at some point, something was dropped on it. Please see the pictures. The passenger side door needs the outside handle repaired, it is present, but not functional. The door does openfrom the inside. The struts on the passenger sidedoorwill also need to repaired or adjusted, as it will not hold the door open in the full upright position. Again, it does open, but will close to about half waydownon its own.

For some reason, this car is missing the locking key - only the ignition key is included (a quirk with the Delorean is that they required two keys - the ignition and one for the lock)

Interior- the leather bucket seats are in good to very good condition. The entire interior was redone at some point in the past, but several areas will need to be repaired: The sun visors show heat damage, the dash is starting to crack (this is shown well in the pictures) and the center council needs some TLC (see pictures as well) The headliner is coming lose around the windshield and A pillar. The windshield has a crack thru it.

The radio has been removed, and will need to be replaced. The A/C blower works in two of the three settings, but blows warm. The tach and speedo cables have been broken.

There are several electrical repairs that also will need to be done with the accessory controls - these should be rather simple for those of you that know how. It looks like someone worked on it in the past that did not know what they were doing - just my observation.

Mechanical - This car starts up and runs well. At some point in the past it was converted to a carburetor system. At the same time the fuel pump was also changed. It has an updated alternator, which is a very good add, as the stock one could not keep the battery charged.

The brakes are old, and should be redone for safety. The automatic transmission refusesto go into third gear. Not sure the reason, but wanted to list it. For driving around the city, its not a problem, but I would not go onto an interstate as it is now. The cooling fan seems to run at all times.

The electric windows work, but the drivers side likes to blow its fuse for some reason.

Details - Please ask your questions before you bid! Please, only serious bidders. The winning bidder will need to provide a$500 deposit upon winning. Contact with the seller is required within 24 hours, and full payment within four days.
