1981 DeLorean DMC-12, VIN #1410, low miles, runs great, excellent original stock
1981 DeLorean DMC-12 Description
After 16 years of ownership I am selling my DeLorean. VIN #01410 (Manufactured in May 1981), with 5-speed manual, black interior, grooved hood with gas flap, 99% original stock configuration, in excellent running condition with only 19,780 miles currently on the odometer.
The car has been kept in an insulated garage for its entire history. Since I bought it in 2000 from the previous owner, whom I knew personally and who had owned it for at least 11 years, I have kept it extremely clean and as close to factory specs as possible. It runs and drives very well, and it has no significant mechanical or cosmetic issues. She's got power on tap with her all-original, stock configuration Volvo V6 and constantly turns heads wherever I go. Colorado being a dry state, the car has no rust. Having been garaged, it has no sun damage.
This year I had the Bosch CIS mechanical fuel injection system professionally restored by DeLorean Auto Parts in Forney, TX, and then I had it fine-tuned by a local sports car mechanic who has experience with the DMC-12. It has a brandnew fuel accumulator, new spark plugs (now with Bosch 4-way plugs),spark plug wires, distributor cap and rotor, battery, thermostat andstainless steel fuel lines. The AC was replenished with R12 and blows cold.
The car has a full set of original floor mats in excellent condition, the original spare tire, two sets of keys, and theworkshop manual and parts catalog. The original booklet is still in the glove box, along withthe first speeding ticket issued to this car - dated 1982 for going 85 mph in a 55 mph zone.
The title is clean.
If you've been holding out for a DeLorean that's immediately drivable, rust-free, with low miles, in excellent condition both cosmetically and mechanically, all while being reasonably priced, then this is your car.
These are the imperfections:
1. Radio does not power on (it's a 90's radio with a fuse in back). The radio has to turn on before the auto-extend antenna will deploy - the antenna does work though.
2. The pin used to reset the trip odometer is snapped off just below the clear plastic.
3. There is a small (2-inch) tear in the trim leather on the driver side door entryway - see pic.
4. There is a small area of discoloration of the carpet next to the battery compartment. The floor mat covers it up though.
5. Headliners are falling down.6. There is a narrow crack in the dash going up to the window from the glove box.
7. There are three tiny dings in the stainless steel - 1) tiny dent hidden in the front driver side wheel well; 2) tiny dent hidden in the rear driver side wheel well; and 3) a small depression in the passenger side door that can only be seen in the light reflecting off the panel. These imperfections to the stainless steel are so small that I would have to point them out before anybody would notice them.8. The fuel sender sticks a little bit, showing 5/8 tank of gas when it is full. A new stainless steel fuel sender cost only $100 - I may replace it before auction's end.9. The tires are largely unworn and well-preserved but they are old - from the early 90's. I've been staying under 60mph and recommend you do the same until new tires are put on.
There is no warranty and the car is being sold as-is with no implied warranty. Please have all funds available before placing your bid. $500.00 deposit required within 24 hours of auction end. Shipping and all associated costs are the responsibility of the buyer.
The pictures speak for themselves. Video to be posted soon.
