Its enduring appeal stems not only from handsome styling, but also from the solid performance engineering that went into it from the outset. Most notably, the Challenger's basic E-Body platform could accommodate the entire Chrysler engine range by virtue of its front sub-frame that was borrowed from the larger Charger/Coronet B-Body cars. In addition, the use of the Charger/Coronet rear suspension layout provided a wide rear track, accommodating the wider tires that became available by 1970. The rest is automotive history. This Plum Crazy 1970 Challenger is a well-presented and attractive example throughout, with a black vinyl roof and black interior that contains bucket seats, center console and woodgrain trim. It has the some of the Mopar desirable options such as, the bulged hood with dual scoops, Rally wheels with trim rings, leather seats, center console with slapstick shifter, new dual exhausts with rear valance cutouts, flip top gas cover, and space saver spare. It is powered by a 383 cubic-inch, 335 horsepower “Magnum” V-8 engine mated to an automatic transmission, the heads have been redone and are not the original heads to the car, and features include power steering, radio, remote driver's side sport mirror, twin ducts on the hood, factory road wheels and Bf Goodrich tires. The current owner of this beautiful Challenger has owned the car for the past 30 years and in that period has only logged 8k miles, now that something you don’t see every day. Without doubt, this correct and impressively detailed Challenger is a great example of one of the most desirable and stylish muscle cars ever produced, and it will make a great addition to your collection. The Challenger was available as a two-door in either a hardtop coupe or a convertible body design, and in two models for its introductory year. The base model was the "Challenger" with either a I6 or V8 engine, as well as a "Challenger R/T" that included a 383 cu in (6.28 L) V8. The Special Edition or "Challenger SE" that added a number of appearance, convenience, and comfort items was "available as a model in either the Challenger R/T or Challenger."The standard engine on the base model was the 225 cu in (3.7 L) six-cylinder. The standard engine on the V8 was the 230 bhp (171.5 kW) 318 cu in (5.2 L) V8 with a 2-barrel carburetor. For 1970, the optional engines included the 340 and 383 cu in (5.6 and 6.3 L), as well as the 440 and 426 cu in (7.2 and 7.0 L) V8s, all with a standard 3-speed manual transmission, except for the 290 bhp (216.3 kW) 383 CID engine, which was available only with the TorqueFlite automatic transmission. A 4-speed manual was optional on all engines except the 225 CID I6 and the 2-barrel 383 CID V8. Our seller has an additional trunk lid without the luggage rack, already painted. Purchased 30 years ago, the Challenger had 103,000 miles on it. and now has 111,580. That's only about 6000 a year in it's first 16 years. Not bad for a car that was probably purchased as a daily driver. It has been well taken care of in the last 30 years by it's owner who has only put a couple of hundred miles a year on it since.
