This big block 1970 Challenger is a classic barn find. It sat in the barn in the photos for more than 25 years.. Pulled out of the barn a few weeks ago and it needs a good home.

This is a very interesting Challenger in that it is a base JH car according to the VIN, but it still retains its original factory, L code, big block 383. This is a numbers matching car. It is also equipped with a factory 727 automatic transmission shifted by a console slap stick. According to the numbers I looked up, there were 3,069 of these made with the L code, 383 2 barrel. I have been to hundreds of car shows and this is the first time I have seen a Challenger with this VIN, even with all of the e bodies that I see at Carlisle each year. There are probably very few left. It is a four-wheel drum, manual brake, manual steering, non a/c car.

Don't let the surface rust fool you. This may need some outer sheet metal, but underneath, the bones of this car are very solid. It still has a lot of factory undercoating left. I couldn't find any real rust on the frame rails, floor boards, or rockers. Even the lips on the quarter panels are all good and may only need outer lower quarter skins. There are holes on the fenders as seen in the pics, probably where the leaky barn roof allowed water to drip down over the front. The inner fenders around the shock towers are also starting to rust, but other than those things and the rear deck lid rust, it's really not bad at all.

I was very impressed as to how solid this car really still is. It will obviously need a new vinyl top as well. Also, the previous owner bent the radiator support when he attempted to move the car – this will need addressed as well.

This is a factory green on green car with black vinyl top.

The motor does not turn at this time, but I have Marvel Mystery Oil soaking in the cylinders. I have yet to have a motor not turn after the cylinders have been soaking in this stuff for a couple of weeks, so it may turn over just yet. If it does, go over brakes, change fluids, etc. this car may be able to be put back on the road as a very cool, ratty Challenger..

The car comes with a clean title, a nice fender tag, and a beautiful broadcast sheet. This is the first broadcast sheet that I have found in a car and it is in nearly perfect condition.

So that’s it, a #’s matching big block Challenger that’ll make a great platform for a restoration or go over the drivetrain and make her a driver once again..
