1973 Dodge Challenger, H code 340 car, automatic, power steering, power disc brakes, factory air conditioning, factory tach and 3.91 Suregrip 8 ¾ rearend. Originally light blue, painted red many years ago. Overall this could be a no guilt driver basically as is or could be restored to your liking.

See picture with list of fender tag codes

The car is fairly presentable, however, the paint is old and has many flaws including, chips, scratches, cracks, small bubbles touch ups and peeling clearcoat etc. It would look better if you buffed it out, did some touch up and put some good wax on it since it wants to turn pink without wax. It looks good from 20 or 30 feet and to casual observers. It appears to have all original body panels and is overall straight with no dents. The floors, frame rails, rockers, torsion bar mounts etc are all very solid and original. There is rust in front of each rear wheel and signs of filler behind each rear wheel. The rest of the wheel lip looks good. It looks very solid around the rear window with no bubbles. Hood is solid with no apparent rust on the underside and the doors are solid with must some minor bubbles at the lower front corners. The trunk lid has rust on the rear edge and should be replaced when the car is repainted. Roof has a spot in the center with some filler that is cracking, not sure if there was an antenna or something there before. The trunk floor appears to have some fiberglass in the center pan. It has the factory dual exhaust valance. Doors open and close nicely. Glass is good. Front bumper looks to have been rechromed. Rear bumper is straight and in pretty good shape but does have some fading. Grill is overall nice but does have a crack at the very lower corner that is not very noticeable and should be an easy repair. Comes with factory chrome remote mirror for driver’s side to match passenger side, just needs installed. Needs antenna replaced. It has nice (real) Weld Draglite wheels, I believe they are 8’s in back and 7’s in front. The tires are fairly old and should be replaced even though the previous owner was driving on them up until last year. If the buyer plans to put on some 17” or larger wheels I would consider keeping the Welds and taking some money off the price but that could be negotiated after the auction is complete.

The interior is also presentable with recovered seats that are nice except for minor imperfections. Door panels have some scratches but are also presentable. Dash has a cap on it and looks good, just needs an emblem installed on the passenger side. Carpet, console and rear interior side panels look good. Headliner is a bit dirty and has a split seam. Shifter handle has some tape on it and I never pulled it off to investigate why but I would assume it needs replacement at some point. Has factory tach but it is not working, it has an MSD unit so it needs a tach adapter in order for the factory tach to work. It has a nice Auto Meter Sport Comp monster tach on the column and other gauges mounted below the dash. MSD unit is controlled by a toggle switch on the dash. It has a very nice aftermarket stereo that is XM/Sirius ready, has a sub woofer in the trunk, rear deck speakers, hidden door speakers along with a large amp.

The engine appears to be a 318 but I am not a Mopar expert. It runs good with good oil pressure and no smoke, knocks or ticks. It features desirable early 340 exhaust manifolds, aluminum intake with newer Edelbrock carb, a larger cam and nice sounding exhaust. Oil filter is remote mounted due to the exhaust manifolds but I have purchased and will include a factory oil filter adapter so you can remove the remote filter if you so desire. The transmission seems to work well through the gears. Previous owner said it had a manual valve body but it seems to operate normally to me but I don’t know what the difference would be. I was told the rearend is a 3.91 Suregrip and by driving it I think that is correct. Turn signals, headlights, heater, and wipers all work. Underhood A/C components have been removed and are long gone, although I would expect most people to use later model more efficient compressor etc. Controls etc are intact. Front brake calipers and brake hoses were recently replaced.

Overall this would be a great car do drive daily since it looks good driving down the road and you won’t cringe every time you have to park next to somebody else. It was well optioned from the factory with the 340, factory tach and desirable air conditioning. It does have some rust but is overall pretty solid and is a car you can drive and enjoy as you restore it. My reserve is pretty low and will leave you lots of room to get a nice paint job, install a 340 or stroker motor and make some other improvements and still have equity in it. It’s not often you can buy a real deal E body Mopar that is complete, running and driving that looks decent in this price range. All major components such as engine/trans and electrical seem to be in order, however, the car has not been driven regularly in a few years and I would recommend some basic maintenance before driving any distance. I do not claim to be any kind of Mopar expert so please feel free to ask questions.

International buyers are welcome. Car is sold as is where is with no warranty expressed or implied. It is available for inspection by appointment only. I have done my best to describe it accurately but please understand that this is a 45 year old car that is not new and has not been restored. I have sold quite a few cars on ebay and try very hard to describe them accurately and to make sure potential buyers have any information I would want as a buyer. In fairness to all bidders I will not disclose the reserve. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time, however, my intention is to let the auction run its course unless someone hits the buy-it-now. Full payment must be made within 5 days of auction end and vehicle must be picked up within 21 days of auction end unless prior arrangements are made. Payment by cash or wire transfer only. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer but I will help however I can. Bidders with a feedback rating of less than 10 must contact me prior to bidding or I will cancel your bid.
