This 1937 Dodge Pickup was purchased from a Discovery Channel Celebrity who lives in Louisiana … who … purchased it several years ago from a Baton Rouge, Louisiana Hot Rod Collector.Well … I love to trace the history of my cars … and after a extensive search I located the collector (who is now retired) and he informed me that he had purchased it along with 5 other “High Dollar” cars from it’s builder who was a Longview, Texas business man who operated a Hot Rod Restoration Shop at one of his companies … and … only built cars for his own collection.He remembered the name … but … that was all he could share with me. So … again I went to work and found the Texas businessman who is now 79 years old, retired and a wonderful gentleman.We talked for a long time … and … the pertinent build information he shared is as follows:
1. He explained, that when he commissioned the built the 37 Dodge, he wanted a Luxury / Reliable / Cruiser … that he and his wife could enjoy driving everyday … with a “Real” Chrysler HEMI, Chrysler 727 Overdrive Automatic, Vintage A/C, Power Brakes and Power Steering.
2. He further shared that it actually sits on a upgraded 2003 Dodge Dakota Chassis.
3. He also explained that he purchased two 1937 Dodge pickups and split both longwise (each 2” off center) … then … reassembled them so that the final pickup was 4” wider than the original. Additionally he chopped the roof … and … elongated the cab by 4” … plus … extended the hood and motor compartment by an additional 4’ (to accommodate the 426 HEMI). He also stated that is was a “All Steel” build except for a small amount of fiberglass under the rear bed area.
4. He additionally stated that the 426 HEMI was a $27,000 New Crate Engine with the $7,500 Hilborn HEMI EFI … and … that the 727 Chrysler Transmission was also a New Crate Transmission with the factory optional $6,000 Overdrive.
5. Finally, he had no idea just how much it cost to build … since … he ran most of the cost through his company. But … Shared that it was very expensive and took several years to complete.
