1980 Ferrari Other Description

We are pleased to offer 1984 Ferrari 400i s/n 50807. This 400i was special ordered by Greg Garrison, one of the most successful TV producers from the 1950s and 1960s Golden-Era of television, who’s reclusive Ferrari collection included the créme-de-la-créme one-off coachbuilt Ferraris of the same eras. The Garrison collection included not one, not two but six unique 250 Ferraris, five 410 Superamericas, a pair of 400 Superamericas and many, many more. As a long-term personal friend of both Enzo Ferrari and Sergio Pininfarina, 400i s/n 50807 was ordered with a request to Pininfarina “to think of special things to add to this car.” Thanks to Garrison’s close ties to both Maranello and Pininfarina, 400i s/n 50807 was finished from new in ROSSO MET FER 305/C, a Watermelon red-metallic paint with a soft and subtle beige leather (buttercream) interior and features many unique modifications and characteristics that set it apart from other 400is.

It has a number of upgrades based on the forthcoming 412, such as color coded bumpers, electric power seats and unique chrome trim plus a Nardi steering wheel from new. The hood scoop is two-and-a-half times larger than on other 400is which allowed Garrison to drive without worries to his home in Palm Springs or on long fast drives to his ranch in Montana. The interior is fitted with front and rear A/C and has a double-insulated leather headliner and extra sound deadening and heat-resistant panels, specifically designed for desert driving conditions. A 5-speed manual transmission allowed effortless cruising across the highways of Montana. The result was a very user-friendly Ferrari thanks to a large and comfortable cockpit, a great greenhouse offering excellent visibility, dual A/C that really works, a well-built Pininfarina body with lots of luggage space and room to take small kids and lots of luggage along. 400i s/n 50807 offers an unusual opportunity to own a one-off Ferrari built for a Factory-favored client that will get you on the lawn at almost any Ferrari event at a price nicely below $100k! We know this unique Ferrari well, having sold it to the current owner in July, 2011.

Introduced at the 1976 Paris Auto Show, the Ferrari 400 Series was the then latest 2+2s to continue Ferrari’s tradition of offering true four-passenger luxury high-speed touring cars fitted with every possible amenity. The 400i was powered by a 4823cc V-12 engine with dual overhead cams putting out 315 horsepower, and 400i s/n 50807 is fitted with the much more desirable five-speed manual gearbox offering substantially better performance than the more common automatic transmission. The three-box body penned by Pininfarina’s master stylist Leonardo Fioravanti is as elegant as they come, with crisply folded corners and a wedge silhouette that was in vogue at the time and has aged surprisingly well, thanks to the fine proportions of the basic design. The characteristic swage line dividing the body into upper and lower halves was carried over from the Fioravanti’s body-side styling lines carried over from the earlier Fioravanti designed 365 GTB/4 Daytona.

Cosmetically, 400i s/n 50807 is in very nice condition. The original paint is very high quality and shows no noticeable imperfections, the panel fit is excellent and the glass and trim are also very nice. All five wire wheels, all five factory mag wheels, the stainless and plastic trim plus all lenses and gaskets are in excellent condition. The additional marker lights required for US specification have been tastefully added just above the seam between the body work and bumpers and don’t detract from the lines of the vehicle. The interior is also excellent. All leather, including that on the seats, dashboard, door panels etc. is very good and the Nardi steering wheel is excellent. A more modern Alpine stereo with a CD player is fitted. The trunk and spare tire well are in great shape. The engine compartment is clean and original. 400i s/n 50807 runs and drives well, has a light clutch, excellent brakes, great syncros, no lack of torque, sounds great and is a pleasure to drive.

1984 Ferrari 400i s/n 50807 was also fitted from new with the front driving and/or Fog lights from the 412 mounted beside the grille, and rear fog lights incorporated into the color coordinated rear bumper. Mounted on four very-attractive and near new Borrani 15″ x 7 ¾″ wire wheels with excellent Michelin 215/70 VR 15 XWX tires and a matching Borrani wire wheel spare. Also comes with the full set of five Factory original 180 TR 415 mag wheels with very good Michelin 240/55 VR 415 tires. Also comes with the full set of books including a 400i owner’s operating handbook and a 412 owner’s operating handbook; the warranty and service schedule book; the world-wide dealer list book; the original Alpine and Blaupunkt radio booklets; a factory maintenance and lubrication chart; a factory wiring diagram booklet; a factory workshop manual and a Factory Sales brochure plus the cloth carrying pouch for the books. Also comes with the original tool kit (missing two small screwdrivers and the pliers) and the original unused first aid kit, all in their case which fits inside the spare wheel. Also comes with two sets of keys. The large center mufflers are off the car and so 400i s/n 50807 sounds great at idle and sounds even better as it runs up through the gears. Comes with the original center mufflers, in good condition, or course. Delivered new in Europe on Italian tourist export plates 99421 EE and first serviced at Ferrari in Orleans, France before being imported into the US in June, 1984 by Greg Garrison. We sold 400i s/n 50807 to the current owner and so we know this Ferrari well. This two-owner 400i has only 63,846 miles from new and is a rare opportunity to own a unique “one-off” Ferrari with dual A/C and five speed performance at a truly affordable price. Priced at only $89,500 O.B.O.
