1965 Ford Galaxie Description

Thanks for taking a look at my auction.

You are looking at a 1965 Ford Galaxie 500. This is the quintessential "barn find, survivor car," whatever you would want to call it. I purchased this car from a collector, who had purchased it from another collector, who had the car in long term storage. It was found with the doors locked and grease applied to all the chrome and brightwork. I believe that I am the fourth owner. This car was last PA inspected in 1977. It had like new bias belted tires on it when I brought it home, andI have the original manuals and paperwork from the car.

This car has less than 62,000 original miles, and is incredibly original and in remarkable shape. The biggest fault of the car isthe attention needed to the right rear frame rail and the rust on the inside quarter extensions. The car is as solid as a rock except for these areas, which are common problem.

The paint on this car is very good considering the majority of it is original. The hood, deck lid, doors and right front fender appear to have original paint, as do all the jambs and undersides of the hood and deck lid. Both quarters appear to have been repainted a long time ago. The left fender has a dent by the headlight, and itdoes have some paint blemishes, minor dings and scratches typical of a 10 year old car, but not a 50 year old one.

The underside of the car including the frame is remarkably clean EXCEPT for the right rear frame rail over the axle, which is cracked. The doors, trunk lid, hood and fuel door have normal gaps and open and close with ease. Both inside quarter extensions have rot but can be easily repaired. Someone sealed them with spray foam to keep out the elements. The outer quarters look great.

All of the chrome and bright work is in very good condition with only minor pitting if any. All trim is original to the car.

The interior of the car is in excellent condition with no noticeable wear. I had the dash pad restored, otherwise it is all original.

Only the carpet and package tray show very minor fading.

Work done since ownership:

Electrical:

New starter, alternator, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, coil, solenoid, points, condensor. The heater, gauges, lights, parking brake warning light all work as they should, as does the radio. Only the clock is inoperative. I added auxiliary gauges to monitor the oil pressure, water temp and voltage.

Cooling:

New radiator, upper and lower radiator hoses, heater hoses, thermostat, thermostat housing, water pump, and coolant. This car runs at 180 degrees. The heater and defroster works as it should.

Mechanical:

New4 barrel 625 cfm carburetor, aluminum intake, fuel pump, fuel tank and sender, oil pressure sender, newfuel line, fuel filter, valve cover gaskets, belts, power steering hoses, stainless dual exhaust with powerstick mufflers. All fluids were changed, and I had a Trans-go shift kit installed. I had 4 new tires, shocks installed, and the single port master cylinder replaced with a factory type dual unit.

I have the original intake, kickdown rod,air cleaner and remanufactured2 barrel carb, whichworked fine when removed.

Included with the sale is a 1968 2 door LTD rolling chassis that I had purchased for thepower disc brakes. This chassis isfrom a NC car with title and will interchange with a 1965. There is a shell on the chassis withdecent workabledoors, quarters and deck lid, and good glassbut is otherwise stripped. The good is thatthe frame isperfect and has had been repainted with some newer suspension and steering components.

This car runs and drives very well. It runs quiet and at cool, shifts firm, pulls hardand sounds great. I have driven it of several 1-2 hour trips and it has not skipped a beat. It's only fault is the frame rail, which developed in the past two years of use. This could be repaired by any good body shop, however with another rust free frameat your disposal, you could do what you want.
