1970 Ford Thunderbird 2 Door Coupe Bench Seat
1970 Ford Thunderbird 2 Door Coupe with Brown Vinyl Top Description
Here is a nice Thunderbird I have owned for about 15 years. This was a one owner car with 21,000 showing but I would assume it is 121,000 miles. It runs great if not a little loud though. I had a new exhaust system put on way back but the shop used mufflers that are noisier than I like now in my golden years. I have only put about 4K on it in all this time. I had it "professionally" restored on the outside in 2007 and changed the color to 2000 Mustang Anniversary Gold from its original drab, light gold. At that time the vinyl top was black with thematchingblack interior. I requested removing the vinyl and making the car all gold but the shop persuaded me to keep it and he would make it look new. He painted(dyed) it a dark brown and it did look great! However--now it has some rust developing under the vinyl plus the seam is tearing on the left side. (I should have removed it!). On the body thereare a couple of places bubbling up that i'll try to show in the pictures but no rust through. The body is really strait, no wavy panels. When I got this car the left quarter panel had some real shoddy body work but the restorer did agreat job fixing that. The paint job looks great, especially in the sun! But there are a few chips and minor scratches. The interior is nice except for a tear on the drivers side cushion. There are two holes in the headliner where mice chewed through before I got the car. The dash has four cracks on the top. All the glass is good but I've replaced some of the power window motors. the two rear quarter windows need the wiring finished. Drivers window works but slow going up. The drivers door panellooks ok but these cars had problems with the arm rest and this one no different; the plastic backing has been repaired and the vinyl covering not glued down tight. When I gottthis Bird none of the windows worked nordid thedriversdoor switches. I couldn't findthe correct switch panel so adapted a panel off of a Lincoln. The motor runs good, I did a full service when I got it, tune up with new everything plus a Pertronix ignition, hoses and belts. Except something went wrong with the Pertronix and I switched it back to points. This is a nice driver and the A/C worked when I first got the car but now needs a charge I would say. The car has been sitting for over a year 1/2 and would not start,a new fuel pumpsolved that problem. This is a greatdriver or with some work it could be a nice show car. The body has no rust in the floors, trunk or frame. Some minor rustas explained, the tires only have 4000 miles on them. Thanks for looking
