Up for auction is this 1955 T Bird Roadster 1955 Ford Thunderbird VIN PSFH238501 California Titled Retro California Black Plate comes with the car 83,305 Original Miles according to the owner. Ford unveiled the Thunderbird at the Detroit auto Showon February 20, 1954. They were only manufactured for 3 years. It was developed in response to the 1953 Motorama Auto Show at the
New YorkAuto Show, which showcased the 1953 Chevrolet Corvette. Ford created a completely new market segment around the Thunderbird. The first production car came off the line on September 9, 1954, and went on sale on October 22, 1954 as a 1955 model, and sold briskly; 3,500 orders were placed in the first ten days of sale.
This is an extremely clean example of a Torch Red Thunderbird. The Period Correct Wide White Tires, Factory Correct Wheel Covers and Fender Skirts, with lots of Chrome provide that classic look everyone admires. It comes with both tops; a Factory Hardtop painted body color and a very nice Black Soft Top which folds away. It is powered by a Factory 292 Y-Block V8 along with an Automatic Transmission.
The original generator was replaced with a more efficient and reliable alternator. The AC unit was a necessity for California weather and blows nice and COLD! The Exterior Paint while not Show Quality is very presentable with a great shine and only has a few minor chips and a couple touchups where the hardtop rests on the rear deck. Overall you would not be disappointed at any high quality car show. The Exterior Chrome, Stainless, Emblems and Trim is all in very nice condition. It has new rubber weatherstripping throughout all the doors and trunk lid. The Glass is all in good condition. A very cool feature for the 1955 model year only is the dual exhaust exits through the rear bumperettes. The stylish two tone Red and White Interior is a nice combination of Original and replacement materials. It features a Power seat and other amenities Ford included. The Speedometer and Tach both operate as they should. Even the clock still operates...amazing! A retro Thunderbird Stereo adds a little upgrades for listening to your favorite songs. The Thunderbird was designed as Sports Car with its swooping body lines and V8 Engine but Henry Ford also wanted it to be a personal luxury car with more comfort and convenience than its the competitor Chevrolet Corvette. The Engine Compartment is very clean and tidy showing pride of ownership and maintenance. The Chassis is very solid as one would expect from a California classic. This Classic Tbird in the iconic Torch Red color get thumbs up whenever it is seen! It drives out very well, quiet, smooth shifting and acceleration and handles nicely. We would say it drives like new....but since we never drove a new one...we cant be certain, but its a nice classic ride! Jump in put the top down and enjoy!
