1955 Ford Thunderbird Base Convertible 2-Door 4.8L
1955 Ford Thunderbird Description
For sale is my black over red and white 1955 Thunderbird with power steering, ower brakes, nd the 3 speed manual transmission backing up the 292 with 4 barrel carb. I've had the car for about 3.5 years, nd its been in the family for the last 10. The 'bird starts, uns, hifts, rives, nd stops excellently. The fit and finish on this car is outstanding, he doors, ood, nd trunk all line up excellently with the rest of the body. The clock and all other gauges work, s does the heat. The radio does not work. With the car are both a hard top and a soft top, he soft top is an original unit and needs to be restored. There is no rust anywhere on this car, nd the underside is as clean as the top side.
There are only two problems with this car: the paint and the hood. In a few select areas along the main body line, he paint is beginning to lift. I believe that when this car was restored in 2004-2005 it was rushed to finish for the annual Hershey show, here my grandfather bought the car. At the time, he paint looked great, ut as the years have gone on the paint is beginning to lift from the body line. As it is, he car is still in excellent shape. At shows people rarely notice the lifting paint, s it isn't too evident unless you know what you're looking for. I've tried to emphasize these areas in pictures as best as I could. The hood has two small dents in it coming from the underside. They appear like small pimples on the hood, ne on the scoop and one on the front passenger side. The bump on the scoop is much more subtle than the front one, his bump rose from using a nut that was too tall on the air cleaner and this nut then bumping into the scoop as the hood flexes. The bump on the front passenger side was caused by a piece of the generator fan blade flying off and being shot upwards into the hood. Again, 've tried to point these flaws out in the pictures. This can be seen as a distortion along the reflection of the roofline of the house in the closeup hood picture.
This car is excellent for somebody looking to purchase a running and driving Thunderbird that can be driven anywhere and can turn heads at your local cruise in or show. It is not a 100 point show car at the moment, ut if that's what you're looking for a fresh coat of paint and some attention to the hood bumps could easily make it one. The classic car and convertible season is starting back up, nd this Thunderbird is a great way to enjoy it.
