1981 Ford E-350 Econoline 4x4 Van
1981 Ford E-Series Van Description
1981 Ford E-350 Econoline 4x4 van. This van started out as a 1987 E-350 PG&E van with the 4x4 conversion. The body was rusted beyond repair so I found a 1981 E-350 2wd van with a rust free body and did a body off swap. Both vans are identical so no frame modifications needed to be made. While the body was off the frame it was completely sanded and painted and anything that needed to be replaced was. After putting the body back on I replaced as follows: new radiator, fuel pump, tires BFG Goodrich, hoses, water pump, exhaust, thermostat, valve cover gaskets, fan belts, exhaust manifold gaskets, alternator, complete tune up plugs, wires, etc. Also replaced new at local shop with receipt were as follows: all new brakes, rotors, brake calipers, brake booster, master cylinder, Edelbrock carburetor, wheel cylinders, master cylinder -- all at a cost of over $3200. Original seats were replaced with a donor 1995 Ford Econoline front and middle high back bucket seats that recline and have arm rests. Back seat is a bench that folds out into a queen size bed. All seats are in excellent condition and I also put a new rubber floor mat in before installing seats. What you have after all is said and done is an excellent running and driving 4x4 van. Engine and drive train are 1987 Ford E-350. Van is registered as a clean title 1981 E-350 Econoline. 460 engine runs great with 108,000 original miles. 4x4 works flawlessly, C-6 automatic transmission with Dana 60 front with manual hubs and Dana 60 or 70 in rear not sure with matching 410 gears, has working dual gas tanks, power steering with power brakes. No cracks in dash, dash cover, custom steering wheel, and after market gauges. I have a lot of time and money invested. It runs and drives fantastic. Not going to lie to you the suspension is a little stiff but it is a 1 ton van and it gets 7.5 mpg when towing a trailer with quads. Body is (cancer) rust free with some minor scratches and one minor dent in passenger rear outer panel. All doors and windows open and shut properly, no cracked glass. Paint is good but not perfect. I would not be afraid to drive this van anywhere if you can afford the gas LOL. These 4x4 vans go for a ton of money new, but this is not a new one. I'm asking $9000 OBO. If you are serious, feel free to call with any questions.
