1975 Ford F100 Ranger XLT Camper Special, 4wd, 390 FE Big Block
1975 Ford F-100 Ranger XLT Camper Special Description
1975 Ford F100 Ranger XLT I acquired as a project truck.
The Good: It has a FE 390 Big Block which was swapped from a different vehicle. I have lapped all the valves, replaced valve seals, and cleaned out the heads and intake. New Felpro Gaskets and ARP head and intake bolts used in the rebuild. Basically a complete rebuild of the top end of the engine. Other upgrades include a HEI distributor, new plug wires, spark plugs, Flowtech full length headers, a new starter and starter solenoid, new 140 amp alternator, Edelbrock 1406 4bbl carb, 2" carb spacer, new fuel pump, Holley fuel pressure regulator, fuel pressure gauge, and many more small things. The truck has a C6 3 speed automatic transmission, np203 transfer case (all time 4wd) and a ford 9" rear end with 3.50 gears and a limited slip differential. It runs really strong, loud, and doesn't burn any oil. Included with sale is all the spare parts I've bought and haven't put on such as a tachometer, a large fuel filter, and various hardware.
The bad: It will only drive in 4Hi-loc or 4-low loc. Not sure if this is a problem with the transfer case, transmission, or axle(s). Has surface rust, is missing a tailgate, and has a large dent on the passenger side of the truck bed. Has old gas in the tank, and is currently being run from a gas can. Does not have the power brakes or power steering hooked up yet, but all that's needed is the correct sized V belt and a vacuum line for the brake booster. Currently straight piped from the headers (will need to have the exhaust system currently in the bed welded back on to the new headers). Front turn signals don't work, and it needs the electric choke wired up but everything else electrical wise works. In short, this is a PROJECT and will need someone with time and experience to work on it.
I wish I had more time to finish this project, but I'm a premed student at Montana State and I would prefer to have money more than a project truck at this point in my life.
