1951 Ford Other Pickups Description
1951 Ford F1Short bed / Step side
Up for your consideration is my 1951 Ford F1. As you can see from the pictures this old girl is oozing with amazing "patina"! No paint shop could replicate this cool rendering by mother nature and time.
This truck was running and driving just a few years ago. As you can see from the photos the truck is by no means a swiss cheese rust bucket. The truck was taken care of and maintained while in use. The previous owner intended to restore the truck but became ill and wasn't able to do so. He confirmed that the engine was in good running order when it was parked nearly 3 years ago. It will need a battery, fresh fluids, and attention to the brakes to make it drivable.
Overall, the truck is really, really solid with very little rust to speak of. The floor is solid and in really good shape. Cab corners and rockers are solid. The passenger side running board has rust through the surface near the rear due to a gas can or maybe the old school kerosene road flares that were mounted there. Rust in that area is very common on the old F1's. Nearly half of the original wood was left in the bed but was in bad shape, I chose to pull it all out. The bed cross members are solid and a new bed kit would be an easy install. With the exception of minor surface rust the frame is solid and in great shape.
The orignal bench seat is intact but will need to be recovered. The dash is all there and in great shape as well as the gauges (I can't confirm whether they work or not, but they're there).
The glass is all there but the windshield is the only glass without cracks.
So far as I know, and from what I'm told, the Ford 239 CID V8 Flathead engine is original to the truck along with the manual transmission and rear-end. The previous owner said the engine ran great and that it runs smooth with no knocking or smoking. The clutch engages as it should and moves through all gears.
The "patina" on this truck is amazing. That's what drew me to this truck in the first place. To preserve the patina simply smooth off any flaking paint with a fine scotchbrite pad and apply a thin coat of clear to seal in the colors and give it a little sheen. The last couple photos show the truck wet to give an idea of what it would look like with clear coat. The body is definately solid enough to be worthy of a full restoration and repaint, but I think it'd be a shame to cover up the look it's currently wearing. I've seen body shops try to replicate natural patina finishes and they never come out looking this good.
Tires all hold air but would need to be replaced to be safe on the road. All 5 wheels (spare included) still have the original Ford center/moon caps. Three out of the 5 trim rings are also there.
Due to the fact that the truck needs to be gone through, freshened up, and brakes repaired to be operable you'll need to inform your shipper that it is a non-operable "roller". I'm happy to help your shipper load it on his trailer.
Don't miss out on this chance to pick up a very original and very solid F1. These old girls are getting harder to find that aren't filled with rust and vermin remains, not to mention finding one that still has it's original Flathead V8 in it that runs.
Housekeeping:Please ask all questions, have funds in place, and permission (if needed) BEFORE bidding. It takes a lot of time and money to list on ebay and I don't want to waste my time or yours. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer, but I'm willing to help on my end to make sure all goes well with your transport at pick up time. Truck is being sold as is with no warranty expressed or implied. I'm not a dealer. I've described the vehicle as straight forwardly as I can. I take my feedback, and yours, very seriously and I want both of us to have a good experience with the sale of the truck. To serious bidders, if you want to see anything that isn't pictured I'm happy to take additional photos of what you'd like to see and email them to yo, just ask. I'm willing to discuss the truck on the phone with serious buyers, simply email me your phone number and I will call you. I'll consider ending the aution early if you would like to make an offer that's good for both of us. Please don't ask me what the reserve is ... it's set up as an auction. Bid what you'd be willing to pay or contact me with an offer that is reasonable. I'd like to sell the truck but I don't need to give it away. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time for any reason.Good Luck !!
