If you collect classic Fords, you will want to stop by MotoeXotica Classic Cars to see this one. We are very pleased to offer this 1957 Ford Custom Ranchero. Built at Ford’s San Jose, California factory on February 5, 1957, about two months after being unveiled at the National Automobile Show in New York. This is one of 15,277 Custom Rancheros (VIN code 66B) made in 1957.

Finished in a beautiful Colonial White over Starmist Blue, this truck’s paint and trim are in overall excellent condition. Its bodywork is solid and straight, its engine bay is extremely tidy, the battery looks new, there’s a black tonneau cover for the bed and the chrome bumpers are in excellent order. This Ranchero was originally painted Colonial White over Dresden Blue (code CE).

Under that forward-hinged hood is a 351 CID V-8 that replaced the 292 CID V-8 Custom Rancheros had installed at the factory. Backing that engine is a Ford-O-Matic three-speed automatic transmission.

This Ranchero rolls on wide whitewall radial tires with Thunderbird wire wheel covers. The tires and wheels are in overall very good order.

Inside, the Colonial and Blue (code X) interior is in overall excellent order, mirroring the exterior. The white bench seat with blue insert looks fantastic, as do the matching inner door panels and carpet. The three-spoke aftermarket steering wheel rim glows in the light. A Retro Sound AM/FM stereo is at home in the blue metal instrument panel.

Introduced in December 1956, three months after the traditional September model year start-up, the Ranchero was based on the standard and new-for-1957 full-sized Ford platform, specifically the short wheelbase Custom sedan, two-door Ranch Wagon and utilitarian Courier sedan delivery.

Essentially a Courier with an open, reinforced bed, its own unique rear window and integrated cab and cargo box, the Ranchero was initially offered in two trim levels, and throughout the model run, was built on the corresponding automobile assembly line, but sold through Ford’s truck division. An extremely basic standard model was marketed to traditional pickup truck buyers such as farmers while the Custom picked up most of the options and accessories available on the Fairline line, including stainless steel bodyside moldings and two-tone paint.

Upscale models were badged both as a Fairlane and Ranchero, with a stylized representation of a Longhorn as the symbol for the model located on the tailgate. Indeed, print advertising of the time played on the theme of the American Southwest that the Spanish model name and Longhorn symbol were meant to evoke, showing artistic representations of the vehicle being used in ranching and outdoor activities, proclaiming it as “More Than A Car! More Than A Truck!” The Ranchero was a hit with both the automotive press and the buying public, filling an untapped market niche for vehicles with the utility of a light pickup and the ease of operation and riding characteristics of a car. In fact, the Ranchero had a marginally higher cargo capacity by about 50 pounds than the half-ton F-Series pickup.

Competition to this Ranchero in 1957 included the re-badged Meteor for Canada plus Chevrolet’s 3100, Dodge’s C-100 and Ford’s F-100 half-ton pickup trucks.

This is a gorgeous first-year Ranchero in a color combination that will turn heads. If you’re a classic Ford fan, you like car-truck blends like this or you’re looking for something different to add to your rolling repertoire, you owe it to yourself to visit MotoeXotica Classic Cars and check this one out.
