Here are the details....
1966 Ford Mustang Convertible a nut and Bolt Rotisserie Restored, Modified = RESTOMOD Today's superior handling, power, comfort, options, and reliability in a meticulously restored vintage 1966 Mustang Convertible body make this car the definition of RESTO-MOD; Restored and Modified. It runs, drives, looks, sits, and sounds incredible! The paint, fit, finish, and attention to detail are above what you see at most shows today - this is truly a craftsman-built machine. It is an absolute blast to drive and it draws a crowd wherever it goes. It has a little over 1,800 shake down miles since its completion in June of 2017 and the build is completely documented in photos and receipts.
There is over $100,000 in labor alone in this car and believe me IT SHOWS! THAT DOES NOT INCLUDE THE CAR'S INITIAL PURCHASE AND THE PARTS THAT WERE PUT INTO IT!!
Numerous subtle and structural modifications and improvements were made while outwardly staying true to the original. Underside reinforced with sub frameconnectors, center floor brace including a driveshaft loop. Semi hidden front cage assembly making an incredibly stiff structure while providing for a smooth ride and allowing for an unobstructed and rigid engine compartment. Rear wheel wells are mini tubbed with 2" wider inner wheel houses. Rear frame rails were narrowed and reinforced for extra wide rear tire clearance and the convertible rear seat inner body structure has been modified but retains the stock appearance. While it was on the rotisserie the underside was refinished true to the 66 Mustang spec red oxide and the engine bay was painted in the satin black like the factory cars were.
The exterior received extensive fitting of new sheet metal. Panels were cut, reshaped, and welded as needed to achieve the outstanding gaps and fitment that is evident on this car. A 1967 Shelby style fiberglass hood, GT 350R front valance, Shelby side scoops, and GT rear valance were all added for style and it looks great together! The car was block sanded multiple times before a modified original Ford code X vintage burgundy paint was applied. Finished clear coat has been wet block sanded flat prior to buffing and polishing to a mirror shine, the car is laser straight. BASF Glasurit products were used throughout including high solids clear. All exterior trim, lights, handles, weather-strips, and bumpers with new, better quality or NOS parts when they were available. Side mirrors have LED turn signal indicators and the driver's is remote adjustable. All glass has been replaced; windshield is a Ford Carlite Green tint / blue shade, tinted vent assemblies, tinted door glass, and tinted quarter glass. All new so no pits, scratches or wear. Front suspension is a Speedway Mustang II IFS setup with narrowed tubular control arms, dropped spindles, and adjustable coil-over shocks. Wilwood 12" disc brakes with slotted rotors were added along with sway bar, power steering and power steering cooler. Aluminum tandem master cylinder with adjustable proportioning valve and power brake booster have been frenched into the smoothed firewall for engine clearance.
Rear suspension features a Control Freak triangulated four link setup with dual adjustable coil-over shocks and an adjustable sway bar. A new Currie 9" with performance axle package, 3:50 gear ratio, and a True Trac (gear type) POSI differential were installed. Wilwood rear disc brakes with drilled rotors and parking brake have also been employed. American Racing 18x8 front and 18x10 rear old school Torque Thrust style mags look at home on this car and add to that cool 60's vibe. Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport tires sized at 235/40-18 (f) and 295/35-18 (r) round out the look and fill those wheel wells very nicely.
The powerplant is a Coyote 5.0 32-valve V8 painted in 1966 Ford Blue and is cradled on urethane mounts. Ford Racing Performance Control Pack wiring and computer with an additional Dyno tuning by the legendary TASCA FORD's Mod Shop.
Videos of the dyno pulls are posted on YouTube at1966 Mustang Convertible Dyno Pull1 and 2check them out! An SCT hand held tuner is included for additional custom tuning if desired. Custom cold air intake with K&N filter and factory engine appearance covers. Exhaust features Doug's ceramic coated, long tube headers, Thrush welded mufflers, 2-1/2" X Pipe and modified Flowmaster tailpipes with polished stainless tips exiting through the GT rear valance's exhaust openings.
The transmission is a Ford 4R70W four speed OD automatic shifted through a new original factory floor shifter with custom linkage. It is controlled by an MSD Atomic transmission controller and is custom programmable and also includes a hand-held controller. An oversized transmission cooler has been fitted to the opening in the GT 350R front valance to maximize its cooling capabilities and it looks cool too! The car's wiring is new from the headlights to the tail lights, it's been upgraded with an American Classic Update Series harness. All systems have been correctly integrated; engine control, transmission control, air conditioning, power windows, power top, lights, gauges, radio, and fuel pump with an inertia safety switch. An Optima battery has been re-located to the trunk and has a high-amp fuse installed in-line for safety.
The interior is a completely new Deluxe Pony interior kit with TMI Sport II seats featuring improved bolsters for better seating position and comfort while keeping to the original Mustang look. An Ididit tilt steering column has been installed including the original steering wheel complete with a new horn ring. The dash pad is a new OE tooling unit with a Drake instrument bezel along with a complete glove box has been installed. A custom set of Speed Hut Gauges including a GPS driven 140 mph speedometer, 8k tach, oil pressure, water temp, volt meter, and fuel gauge have updated the dash. Also, a new ACC carpet, matching Mustang logo floor mats, and Drake Pony emblem seat belts were installed. A nu-Relics power four window kit compliments the restored factory power convertible top which is now covered in modern, durable STAYFAST canvas. Sounds of Music are provided by a Custom Autosound USA630 radio, Rockford Fosgate Punch series speaker and a hidden antenna. A Vintage air conditioning unit completes the interior and keeps it cool and comfortable.
A recent appraisal of $105,000 indicates the kind of build quality that this car and its builder/owner have exhibited. Paperwork includes extensive amounts of receipts, system manuals, computer control guides for the tuning and trans control along with 100's of restoration pics (not including the 200 I took). This is a 2,000 hour / three year build folks, no shortcuts taken with this gal and boy she SCOOTS!
It would be very difficult to have this car built at DOUBLE the asking price!!
