1966 Ford Mustang Description

1966 Ford Mustang GT350 Shelby Fastback Tribute

Don't have $250,000 to spend on an original Shelby Fastback, but still want a car that will turn heads and win awards? AND you can drive it every day if you want?

This vintage Tribute 1966 Fastback Shelby Mustang GT350 began as two separate cars - the bottom half was a 1965 coupe and the top was an original 1966 Mustang Fastback (NOT a fabrication). The two halves were flawlessly married together and beautifully painted Wimbledon white with a blue stripe (NOT a sticker). The car was nearly a shell on wheels when I bought it 10 years ago. Over the years, many talented craftsmen have worked hard to make this car a fitting tribute to the great Carl Shelby name. All work has been done with quality workmanship using original, reproduction, and after-market parts to make this a powerful, fun-to-drive car that turns heads wherever it goes!

A note about our MYSTERY VIN number:

Our car’s VIN has been a mystery since the engine code number was not widely used nor is it known by anyone except for Ford experts.

The VIN is stamped on a plate attached to the driver’s side and is also stamped on the frame under the front fender. The title states this VIN and has been used to register and insure the car. There is not a VIN plate on the door because this car’s doors were originally on a Fastback.

Here's an explanation of the VIN code (you can find details athttp://www.tpocr.com/fordvin5.html):

5 = year code 1965 (from the coupe body)

F = Dearborn Plant production

07 = hardtop coupe body code (a Fastback code would be 09)

3 = engine code - this usually would be a letter not a number, but recently we have spoken with experts at Marti Auto Works (http://www.martiauto.com and 623-935-2558) who tell us that a “3” was used to signify a Low Compression 289 engine that was probably manufactured specifically for export to another country.

33951 = consecutive unit number or the order the Mustang was built in the factory

Fromhttps://onemanandhismustang.com/classic-mustang-vin-decoder/: “Since the Mustangs were first manufactured there were comprehensive records kept of each vehicle. Tragically there was a fire/flood at the storage location and ALL records of the 1964 1/2 to 1966 Mustangs were destroyed... cut and paste the following into your browser.http://www.martiauto.com/index.cfm

The title is correct and we have not had any questions when registering and insuring the car since we purchased it.

Sorry, but because of the VIN, export is difficult so US buyers only accepted.
