1966 Ford Mustang -- Description

Time and use almost always take their toll on any classic car, so it's pretty uncommon to encounter a specimen in the consistently original yet clean condition sported by this 1966 Ford Mustang. This is one unusually authentic Pony - it's not only wearing the same unaltered colors it rolled out of the factory with both inside and out, but it's also powered by a small block that's almost certainly been with it from the start. Add to that the... original window sticker and dealer invoice you'll find stowed inside - and you'll agree that this is quite an outlier we have right here. Somehow the commonly used term "survivor" doesn't quite seem sufficient. This '66 has come through more than a half-century of life still in full possession of a well-configured exterior composed entirely of its original sheet metal - no body filler sleight of hand involved here. It wears a fetching Emberglo metallic shade that, with the exception of some touchups here and there, is not just its original color, but its original paint. Mustangs have served as foundations for thousands of aftermarket projects since they first entranced the American car buying pubic with their unique combination of sports car vibe and four passenger convenience, but this one proudly wears an entirely factory appearance. The bumpers both fore and aft are in impressive shape - a polishing session will bring out their best - and on all sides of this classic, its instantly recognizable badging is very much on point. Above, the contrasting black canvas top shows no damage of note and is surrounded by surprisingly clean trim. The contrasting parchment-colored interior is still quite solid - it's also yet to see any refurbishment of note, which makes its condition all the more impressive. The factory AM radio still holds its place at the center of the dash, though it will need some attention to get back up and running. You can definitely see that this classic has been driven with respect - while you can find limited signs of wear on the seating, which is certainly to be expected after so many years of service, the carpeting lining the floor, as well as the dash area, steering wheel and center console, are in outright great shape, with no obvious blemishes. The trunk area is surprisingly spacious for a car of this size and its inner fenders and wheelhouses are in clear view, so you can see just how solid they are. Ford's 289 V8s have developed quite a reputation for consistent dependability over the decades - they're still powering legions of classics to this day. In keeping with that stature, the one on board here, wearing its proper blue block, valve covers and air cleaner, is still getting it done with gusto, firing up promptly and running smoothly. It pairs with a 3-speed automatic transmission that's also very likely original to make up a solid drivetrain. A number of steps have been taken to maximize dependability - the brake booster was recently replaced, new shocks at all four corners smooth out the ride and a new fuel tank helps ensure that the small block gets a clean supply of gas. Power steering makes for easy handling and power brakes with discs up front to bring prompt, low effort stops as this beloved classic cruises on a set of 14" stock wheels wearing Sears All-Season tires ornamented with a thin white wall strip for just the right vintage touch. The sighting of a classic still so fully in possession of its original components is rare enough, but this 1966 Ford Mustang also runs like a charm to really set it apart. Call today!
