1948 Mercury M47 1/2 Pickup
1948 Ford Other Pickups M47 Description
This is a 1948 Mercury M47 1/2 ton short bed pickup. The Mercury M47 was a Canadian produced pickup that is interchangeable with Ford F47 pickups. I purchased this truck locally from a lady in her nineties that claimed, to the best of her recollection, that her husband had owned it since it was 2 or 3 years old. It has been out of the DMV system since the late seventies or early eighties, so it is being sold with a bill of sale only. I can get a bill of sale notarized if the buyer is willing to cover the $100 notary fee.
This is a complete pickup that I had previously disassembled for the most part to go through it and fix or clean-up areas that needed to be addressed. The only bright work piece missing is the trim from the front fenders otherwise it is a complete truck. The original gauges, wiring etc are included and have only been been removed. The new headlights and tail lights have been switch over to 12 volt and it was my intention to complete the total conversion over to 12 volt on this pickup. None of the glass was any good, so it was all removed and only the vent window glass remains. The very limited rust on this truck is only superficial and there is no rot issues. The only area that is really effected by rust is on the side of the front of the box. When I purchased the truck there was dirt in the front of the box and it obviously held moisture, so there is slight rot/bubbling right where the box side meet the bed floor at the front corners of the box sides. This truck has a steel bed floor presently.
One of the previous owners had painted the truck white with a paint brush, but most of it has come off and I removed as much as I could too. It has a real cool patina look to it. The flathead V8 engine included with this truck has been hot tanked and magna fluxed and is a good block to rebuild. The cylinders will need to be over bored to clean them up, but other than that it is a great core to rebuild off of. The rotating assembly & valve train assemblies were in rough condition were not put back into it. I had intended to keep this engine as a piece of shop art, but have decided to include it with this truck. I painted up the block and powder coated black all the oil pan/accessory pieces etc. The hardware is all stainless and it does have gaskets on it as well, so there's a fair bit included with the engine. The two bumpers are brand new and have been freshly powder coated satin black. I had built a 1952 Mercury pickup previously and I have an assortment of brand new spare parts that I will included with this truck. There are most of the brand new weather stripping/seals this truck would need included with these parts.
I feel really confident that anyone who is looking for a vintage of truck like this truck will be extremely happy if they purchase this truck. With that said, if you are interested please ask any questions you may have prior to bidding. The buyers satisfaction is very important to me and I would prefer you buy with confidence. I am open to offers, but I must re-iterate to please call or message me if you have any inquiries/questions prior to making an offer. Bruce - (780) 621-6346
