1931 Ford Model A pickup truck Flathead v8 Scta Hot Rod av8 32
1931 Ford Other Pickups Description
Up for sale is my personal Model a pickup I've been driving for 10 years. I know the history of it since the 60s. It's an older restoration with the full av8 treatment. It runs and drives great and is ready for a new owner.
All original model A sheet metal. It is a late 31 cab with the indented firewall and column drop. Fenders and running boards are original as well. Box is a 1930. It sits on a clean unboxed unmodified Model A frame.
When I purchased this truck it had a 60hp Flathead v8 that had been in it since the 60s. It was fun to drive but didn't have much power. Three years ago I re did the drive train. The engine is a fresh rebuild. It's a very desirable factory relieved truck block 1942 Flathead v8. 239 cu in bored .060 over. Fully balanced rotating assembly. Line bored, block decked, cooked out, reground cam, hollow body adjustable lifters and professionally assembled. Early offy heads were milled and stainless thread inserts installed for the plugs. Motor runs great and does not overheat. I machined 13 lbs off the stock truck flywheel so it's really snappy. It has a new 9" clutch and is backed by a rebuilt 39 ford 3 speed trans. Stock model A rear end was fully rebuilt with 3.54 high speed gears. The radiator has model a tanks and a custom made 4 core center. 12 volt neg ground system. Rebuild generator. New crab style distributor and rebuilt chrome stromberg 97 carb. Custom built headers with smithy mufflers.
The truck has 1940 ford drum brakes all the way around. Powdercoated 1940 ford 16" wheels and firestone bias ply tires. 7.00 and 5.50x16.
The front suspension is a stock model a axle dropped 3" with split wishbones, 1940 spindles, reverse eye spring and tube shocks. The rear is a restored model T spring and tube shocks. Original banjo steering wheel and cross steer with a real Vega box. Not a Chinese one. Steers way better than stock box.
The truck was frame off restored in the early 80s. They used all the correct model a hardware and parts from Snyder's. The paint is still nice but it has signs of use. It's not perfect. I'm not afraid to use it as a truck. One fender had a crack on the edge I repaired and touched up. That's the only body repair since restored.
It starts easy and runs great. Drives like you would expect a model A to drive with bias ply tires and drum brakes. It can run highway speeds. Has enough patina and old parts to make it really cool. Chrome dash rail. Old gauges etc. you can drive it,show it, and use it as a truck.
