1976 Ford F-150 RANGER XLT Description

1976 F-150 RANGER XLT
This is a very nice classic ford. This truck is a somewhat rare model. It is an F150 trailer special model, with factory 8-lug rims and HD suspension. It also has the 390 4-barrel engine, larger radiator, and other HD options normally just on F250 or F350 models. The trailer special option on this model was the F13, which is the first three on the VIN. 1976 was the only year this option was offered in the 1973-1979 trucks. This is a loaded Ranger XLT with factory air. This truck is in really nice shape overall. Below are all the details. Feel free to ask questions. Let me know if you want to do something early on it.

MECHANICAL
This pickup has the 390 big block V8 with 4-barrel carb. These are generally considered very good engines and they have a lot more power potential with performance accessories. This engine looks completely stock now. It runs nice and doesn't smoke. It doesn't tick or knock and has no leaks of concern. This has a stock type exhaust so it is quiet. The oil is clean with no water in it. The truck runs cool. This has the giant HD radiators which are great for towing and just summer driving. This has the automatic transmission that shifts perfectly. No problems or slipping. The truck drives nice down the highway. The tires are studded, so you'll need to pull the studs or switch the tires for driving this time of year. I can pull the studs for you if you'd like. The wheels are old white spokes that are not real nice but look ok. I would put nice rims on it myself if I were to keep it. You can get many different wheels for this bolt pattern. This truck has 16" wheels originally and that's what the whitespokes are. You can get some aftermarket wheels in a 15", and many aftermarket rims in 16" or larger. They do sell lift kits for these trucks also, if you want the 4x4 look. This truck has the 3.07 gear ratio according to the door tag. This is a great ratio for highway driving. Overall this pickup is very sound mechanically and will need no major mechanical work. I would recommend fluid changes, just because I don't know specifically the last time they were changed. Everything works on the truck besides the A/C. The belt is off the A/C compressor. That usually means that it needs charged. I haven't put a belt on to try it. The brakes work fine. It has power brakes and steering. All lights work. Heater fan, heater selector, and wipers work. The mileage on the odometer is 26k. I don't know if this is the original mileage on the truck. This could be original, just judging by the condition of the truck. These old fords only have 5 digit odometers so it's hard to say if it's flipped over or not. If it's 126k, it was real easy highway miles.
BODY
The body on this old ford pickup is very nice. I don't know the complete history on it but the paint looks original and the truck was most likely was garaged. The interior is not faded either, especially the dashpad. The roof and hood aren't faded. No overspray anywhere that would indicate a repaint or collision work. No bondo. The paint all matches also. Door tag VIN matches the factory cab sticker VIN. The truck has two dings. One on the hood you can see. It may pop out but I'm not sure if it's accessible from the inside of the hood. Paintless dent remover may be able to fix it though. A bug deflector may hide it possibly too. The other ding is on the passenger door, and I do think it will pop out and it is accessible with the door panel off. The body overall is very straight, clean, nice, tight, and rust-free. I can provide undercarriage pics also of the cab and suspension. Salt is not a problem here and this truck is really clean. Inner fenders and header are fine too. There is no rust in the box floor either. The front of the box floor isn't pictured, just because only 24 pics fit on here. It has no rust.

INTERIOR
I have not checked under the seat cover to see the seat condition but I will. The Dash is very nice and gauge area. the carpet looks original and is in good shape. Not perfect, but pretty good considering the age. Door panels are in good shape. The headliner is in place but sagging a little. The are easy to repair but you need to take it out to do it right. It's pretty easy and I can tell you how. The headliner and visors are in good shape. The seat is comfortable. The cab is quiet and tight when driving. Doors close nicely with no hinge problems. The original aeronutronic ford radio works! It's AM only. These days there are lots of options for music without replacing this radio. The interior doesn't smell at all. I really don't like cigarette or animal smells especially, and this truck has no smells. The interior is just clean and tight.

Overall
This is a nice old pickup. Really clean for an un-restored truck that is 43 years old. I've owned many '73-'79 and '67-72 ford pickups. It's getting hard to find nice original trucks that are drivers. Sold as-is.
