1966 Ford Mustang Coupe Description
1966 Mustang Coupe originated from Indio, California... a dry desert city where this car spent it's early years, then to cold storage in foothills of the Montana Bighorn Mountains and finally stored high and dry in Rapid City SD. Not a filthy barn find but well preserved vintage steel.
With clear SD title in my name, and original paperwork back to 1993 included. Mostly intact the red/orange patina paint, good running original A code 4bbl 289 V8, healthy dual exhaust, original Auto tranny, rally gauge option, factory 9" rear end, P/S, P/B, factory AIR conditioning, factory Tinted Glass all around, OTC cruise control, original Black Vinyl Top all deteriorated from desert sun and the paint faded with some chips and scratches, could use re=paint but why not patina? Includes original wheel covers but also have a set of Ford bolt pattern 14X6" and 14X7" ET style mag wheels that could sell you. Mostly original and straight rust free. Note the original A/C compressor and P/B booster had been removed but are included with sale. The compressor rotates freely and has compression, and clutch works.... was probably removed in cold Montana. The P/B booster probably was removed (but saved) due to leaking vacuum.
The doors don't sag and they close real good. (The good KLUNK!) The windows roll down ok but up.. kinda stiff from old age. No cracks in original tinted glass. All the stainless trim around windows is dent free. Original interior the drivers seat cover has a couple patches. And the carpet has some wear holes. The only rust i can find is in the passenger side foot well an area about 1/2" X 4, I am certain that is from the Air Conditioning dripping condensation because everything else underneath looks to be dirty but rust free! Even the bottom of the rockers have paint on them and when i scrub the dirt i see the original metal stamping date codes. Same on the top of the front inner fenders...i'm not a Mustang expert but i thought they all ended up rusted? This one is awesome for its age! What does it need? New tires, new battery, a Holley electric choke kit, A/C hooked up, and general TLC. I have an original 4bbl air cleaner that will be included with sale.
Let me give you some advice.... Why buy a rusted out hulk that will take 4 years of time an money just to get the body repaired? This Mustang is straight, nearly rust free, so you can put your time and money into mechanical upgrades that matter. If you want a perfectly restored 1966 Mustang, don't buy this one. Buy one already restored and take it to the car shows and everyone will just walk by it and nod and then head over to see a patina Mustang like this one... Restored Mustang? Ho-Hum....big deal...dozens of them all the same....
Instead buy this one and just fix some things that need fixing: Flush and drain all the fluids and re-fill with new. Re-Install the original Power Brake booster and A/C compressor...both included with sale. Inspect the brake shoes and wheel cylinders and get new tires. Check the suspension and alignment. If the tranny ever gives you trouble, take the opportunity to put in a Ford AOD tranny so you can drive it 80MPH. on the highway. You will enjoy it more and drive it more. Don't bid unless you have the money and will pay up if you win the bid. Don't tell me you are a newbie bidder and didn't expect to win the bid. Ask questions now not after you win the bid.
On Sep-27-19 at 09:48:14 PDT, seller added the following information:The engine has a stamp under the original air condition bracket it appears to be 5M 3 or 5M03 for Dec 1965 casting. The intake manifold has a very close date code 5M8. i looked above the starter for any more numbers but it is a greasy oily area...can anyone tell me where to scrape for more numbers? I posted another pix showing the A/C compressor, brake booster, and additional spare parts which are included with the sale.
