This is your opportunity to buy a matching numbers 1968 Ford GT Mustang 2+2 Fastback with a 390 S code engine producing 335 horsepower and 427 pounds torque. In 1968 45,325 fastbacks were built with 12,087 ordered with the GT equipment option. In 1968 the 390 was the new “FE” block, with 2,922 being built with this engine and the C-6 automatic that powered a car weighing 2990 pounds. The GT option with the V8 (except 289) gave you:
· Fog lamps at each end of the grill
· Dual exhaust with low restriction design and quad exhaust tips
· GT hockey stick strip
· Heavy duty suspension with higher rate front and rear springs, higher capacity shocks and larger diameter front stabilizer

The options on this car are the interior décor package that included the courtesy door lights, smart grill design in the lower door interior trim panels, roof console with twin map lights and switches, simulated wood grained instrument panel and roof console appliqué, T bar shift lever and seat back insert trim buttons. The other options was the electric clock, tinted glass, visibility group, power front disk brakes, power steering, floor console with an AM radio, hood louvers with integrated turn signals, comfort-weave seat upholstery with only 5% ordered with this option, remote control outside mirror, deluxe seat belts, folding rear seat (2+2) only, silent flow vents in quarter panel outlets, front and rear bumper guards, C-6 automatic transmission and performance rear axle ratio of 3:25.
The car was built on February 6th in the San Jose, Ca plant and shipped to the Burke Hudelson Ford dealership in Nampa, Idaho. The first owner had a canopy and pickup accessory company in Boise. The second owner bought the car for his wife on January 5th, 1971 and she drove the car until her death in 1977. He threw the keys in the front seat and they were still there when we bought it in June of 2018. The mileage was 86,822 at that point and is 86,972 after a few test miles.
This two owner car has been professionally restored to its original specifications utilizing better than factory workmanship. There was no rust so all the panels are original sheet metal. The interior had to be completely replaced: the motor was rebuilt with all the correct parts by a company that specializes in Ford motors plus it was balanced. The original transmission, starter, alternator, power steering and brake booster were also rebuilt. The car was a rotisserie build with it remaining a numbers correct car. The bumpers and air cleaner lid were sent to one of the best plating companies in the Northwest. You can see from the photos that attention to detail along with the original specifications being maintained.
The Marti report (included with pictures) states that 5,623 were produced with this paint code and only 26 with this paint and trim options. The speculation is that the trim options raised the price along with the GT option, 390 engine and automatic contributed to the high price and in turn the car set from February 68 until it was sold at the dealership on 1/17/69.
This car was featured on the Ford brochure for Mustangs in the same color and with the GT option. This is a fun car to drive. You can have detailed inspection done along with the receipts for work done. This is a unique car that you will find that very few can be found with the 390 and automatic and especially with all the options that were added to this car when it was built. It is a car that has increased in its value and will give you the chance to relive the muscle car era.
