Amazing Survivor! Just 33k Miles! 390 V8, C6 Auto, PS, PB, Lots of Docs & Parts!
1966 Ford Galaxie 500 Description
Lower, wider, and longer is how Detroit made cars in the '60s, and this 1966 Ford Galaxie 500 sedan is arguably the best way to show that off – it's big, bright, and has a powerful 390 V8 big block motor mated to a C6 Cruise-O-Matic transmission. But the most impressive part is that this 4-door sedan is the kind of remarkable survivor that you simply just don't see these days. Completely unrestored, fully maintained, and preserved to an almost obsessive-compulsive standard the likes of which we've rarely seen, this 33,494 actual mile Ford is as impressive as they come in the 'survivor' category of the hobby.
It's hard not to love the mid-60s Galaxies, and the fervent following they have today proves the 'stacked-headlight' years will continue to grow in popularity. Unbelievably, the exterior is absolutely untouched, and the survivor Emberglo Metallic finish is all original and still shows like a nice driver, with only minor blemishes to be found upon closer inspection. In fact, a professional buff and polish is all we'd recommend, it would lift the paint up to a slightly higher level and throw cold water on any blasphemous thoughts of repainting this beautiful American relic. The people at Ford made sure that their full-sized car was represented well with cool design touches like placing the headlights and taillights as far in the corners of the body as possible, which laid perfectly on the taller and bulkier bodies of the 3rd generation. That way everything looked stretched to the max, allowing the paint jobs and chrome elements to do a lot of the talking, including the wide bumpers, and the grille that almost looks billet-style straight from the factory. In fact, all of the factory trim and emblems are still intact and look great, and even the correct wheel covers are in place to complete the awesome originality. And this is the exact kind of sedan that deserves to show off its originality. Four doors mean you can always bring your friends, and even with those extended measurements, this Galaxie 500 still manages to look sporty.
Talk about a time capsule inside! The two-tone parchment and beige interior is a perfect complement for the exterior finish, as it does a great job calming down the vivid Ember paint with the luxurious feel of muted colors inside. Everything inside is 100% original, including the seats, which are in truly exceptional shape after being protected by those thick, clear vinyl covers since new. The carpets, headliner, door panels, and dash show almost no evidence of ever being touched, which has left us wondering if this car was always driven with white gloves and a hazmat suit on. But beyond just appearance, with its wide front bench and spacious rear bench seating, you know you have the versatility to take everyone for a ride in this impressive Galaxie 500. You've even got great original features like the AM radio, a heater, and seatbelts, but that's as far as it goes for amenities. But no matter how many people come along, you always will enjoy this sedan. The driver gets to experience classic American motoring with the intricate design of the vintage steering wheel, and beyond that is the original speedometer that's so wide it seems to need its own zip code. Out back, the spacious trunk still has its original mat and bias-ply spare tire, but are you even surprised by that at this point?
Pop the hood and you're treated to a big block presentation that presents the same way it did on the showroom floor in 1966. Not only do you get the famous 390 cubic-inch V8 FE big-block and all of the original components that come with it, but it's always been impeccably maintained and routinely serviced. There are even printed labels under the hood with the exact dates and mileage of service items. Wow! A big block means you get plenty of power for the streets (factory rated at 275HP/405lbs-ft. of torque), and a good growl from the factory exhaust and chambered muffler. But really this is the kind of car you can enjoy at a much more leisurely pace, with power steering, power brakes, and a smooth shifting Cruise-O-Matic C6 automatic transmission. The undercarriage is as clean and solid as you'd expect from a survivor car with so few miles, and the factory rolling stock of steel wheels adorned with Galaxie 500 hubcaps are wrapped with whitewall bias-plys.
Powerful, impeccably preserved, and affordable – this Galaxie 500 sedan is one of the most impressive survivor classics that we've ever featured. Documented with maintenance records, owner's manuals, a slew of original parts and extra parts, and even the chauffer's license of what may be the original owner, this is the one to have if you love originality.
