1957 Ford Custom 300 Description

Believe it or not, Ford outsold Chevrolet in 1957 but today you don't see nearly as many '57 Fords. That's a shame, because this 1957 Ford Custom 300 sedan is a very pretty car that's ideal for cruising. With cold A/C, awesome period colors, and room for the whole family, this is a vice-free collector car that's ready to enjoy.Have another look at this handsome Ford and you'll probably agree that there was a reason they were so popular in 1957. The two-tone Starmist Blue and Dresden Blue combination is perfect for the 1950s and makes the Ford look long and lean. The sweeping trim works as well on a four door as it does on a hardtop and it disguises the rear door quite well. The paint job is a few years old and this is a car that was built to be driven, so there are signs of use and age, as you'd expect. However, that doesn't mean it needs anything, because it offers a great shine, good gaps all around, and even from five feet away the car looks like a movie star. The chrome and stainless trim is a combination of original and restored pieces, with none of it looking out of place, which suggests that this has always been a car that was treated well. Accessory fender skirts make it look even longer than it already is and dual mirrors are a nice addition for driving on today's roads. For cruising, nothing beats a big sedan because everyone has plenty of stretch-out room and you don't have to travel light. The handsome two-tone blue seat covers were replaced within the last year, so they're in excellent shape and the foam underneath was replaced at the same time, so these seats are all-day comfortable. The big steering wheel makes it easy to maneuver this full-sized cruiser and it frames a familiar arched instrument panel with clear gauges and crisp markings. An aftermarket A/C unit under the dash does a rather effective job of keeping the interior cool, even on the warmest days, and the 272 cubic inch V8 doesn't seem to mind the extra work. The factory AM radio is still in the dash, and that's one area that could be upgraded to really turn this into a first-rate road trip car. A giant trunk is part of the package, and it includes a correct mat and a full-sized spare with jack assembly.Ford's Y-block engines were smooth, torquey, and reliable, making the 272 cubic inch V8 under the hood of this Custom 300 an eager travelling partner. The big sliver air cleaner, red engine enamel, and black valve covers with big FORD decals all look quite correct and they were especially careful to hide the A/C out of sight and down low. There's also a modern alternator, which better maintains the under all circumstances. A 2-barrel carburetor means that it's smooth and torquey and there are plenty of signs that this car has always been properly maintained. The 2-speed Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission works with 3.10 gears out back to make this a comfortable car around town and on the highway and a Flowmaster dual exhaust system gives it a likeable V8 burble. The chassis is shockingly clean albeit unrestored, and it sits on steel wheels with hubcaps and 215/75/14 whitewall radials.Clean, well-documented, and ready to enjoy, this is the 1957 you need to own if your blood runs Ford Blue.
