1950 Ford Custom Coupe V8 Flathead with Factory Overdrive!
1950 Ford Custom Coupe Description
1950 Ford Deluxe Coupe V8 with Factory overdrive! The car comes from Southern California originally and was at one time in the early 60's a famous and well known rod. It was originally a blue coupe. It came up for sale and Chuck in Haslett, TX bought it and converted the car over to what you basically see now. He had Rod Powell come and pin stripe the car and I have pictures of that as well. Just google his name..
When I bought it from him the car was still 6 volt and under the hood was very basic and outdated, although it ran pretty good since he had the motor gone thru around 2014. I converted the car over to 12 volts and took the 12 volt battery out of the trunk he had for the stereo....
I basically went thru the car wiring and engine bay. All lights inside and out work perfectly with headlights using a relay system. The custom nostalgic stereo work excellent with speakers in the rear under the rear deck upholstery. All gauges work perfectly, with the gas gauge being exact. Turn signals perfect with rear lights LED that are flame thrower bright! I wired in a remote switched unit for the road lights, and a light switch for rear auxiliary backup lights. Wipers on the car are 12 volt electric motor driven and new.
The engine has a new Carburetor, Tune up including wires, cap and Petronix ignition and new oil and filter. The V8 has headers on it all new hoses, new updated ceramic water pumps, thermostats, belts and alternator. The exhaust is like new with new mufflers. The radiator is a 4 core Walker the best you can buy. The coolant is perfect. the car has no cooling issues at all.
The transmission has been serviced and I removed the solenoids to service them as well. So the Overdrive works perfect! Clutch is excellent and shifting is smooth as new. This car has zero mechanical or driving issues. No noises or howling in the drive train. The drive line has been rebuilt with new u-joints 2019.
Steering has been updated with the conversion system that eliminated the floating from stock 2018.Alignment is perfect and the tires have maybe 700 miles on them new in 2019. Chris at (Shoebox Central) knows the car and has provided most of all the goodies.
The interior was done by Blood Threads & Shears in Fort Worth, TX. The fabric is very rare with little fabric left in the USA from a 1953 Oldsmobile. It is almostchameleonwhere it looks black at different angles and then rose red. Notice the platinum beading around the seats! It is without a doubt the nicest upholstery I've ever seen in any Shoebox. The carpeting is all bound as is the made floor mats. The firewall panel is also covered with the black Carbon colored. The cars heating system works perfect, with selection box and heat control functions like new. Defrost and all!
The tires are new 2019, 205 75 15's. Mounted on factory Ford rims. Brakes on the car are exceptional! No pulling and will stop like disc brakes...This car can be driven basically anywhere. The glass in the car is all in very good condition. All windows roll up n down and the rear side windows pivot out like new. Almost all rubber seals and door seals are like new.
The body is very straight and the paint looks very nice, although there are spots where the clear-coat is coming off.
I took pictures of the rear above the tail lights and the top pf the car. There are small spots on the trunk also.
There are some small bubbles on the bottom of the doors but no cancer. There is also small rust in the rockers on the inside panel. Not the body side. Just where the center support in the middle of the door opening is under the rocker panel and is common on Shoebox's. They have been there like that for 40+ years and haven't changed.
The hood looks excellent and paint is great but towards the windshield very small section of filler has popped up 1/16" in one spot but no one can really see it. There is a small ding on the cab above passenger windshield.
Just being straight up if you think your getting a perfect show car for this money...2 years ago I went to a car show and won 49-60 class with it. People were around the car all day. It really is still a very nice Shoebox.
My health is forcing me to sell most of my collection, that's the only reason I'm selling.
