1969 Ford Fairlane Coupe
Leepers are some of our favorite cars here at Classic Auto Mall. Not only because they're fast and soft-spoken, but also because they represent the ingenuity of putting big horsepower in anonymous and sometimes unpopular packages. It's a side of our personality that, given the pages of polished cars on our website, you probably wouldn't expect to see. And I know what you're thinking... You doubt my sincerity about introducing a genuine, road-ready sleeper. But alas, after you take just one look at this original Ford Fairlane, you'll quell your convictions.
Looking original in its paint scheme, this 1 family owned car has been the enjoyment of a single family since it was purchased by the consigners father in 1969. He was meticulous about maintenance and records are there to prove it. Some repairs over the years, but sporting the factory paint, and interior, overall, this car remains in good restored condition. A grocery getter by day and by night a cruiser with the numbers matching 302ci V8.
Exterior
Dresden blue from the factory still adorns this car. It has a few chips throughout and some dents and dings, along with minor surface rust on some of the chip offs, but it is original. In the early 90's interior cloth was updated to match the original, and a replacement black vinyl top was installed. Now we see some rust and peeling of that vinyl roof covering near the bottom of the rear window on that replacement roof. Gaps are still well minded, and trimmings are used sparingly only as a thin side spear trim. Chrome looks good, and standard hubcaps are on all 4 corners.
Interior
A swing of the door and we see blue vinyl panels with some chromed trimmings and handles and cranks. A darker blue door pull is attached. Inside some dark blue vinyl combines with an angled linear tweed insert in mostly gray but with a few speckles of brown and black color added. Tweed piping surrounds the borders and also the broadcloth is seen on the headrests. A rear bench is in the same color way and mixture of vinyl and broadcloth. The dash upfront is a trio of deep inset circles with gauges shaded nicely for viewing. This padded dashtop is in a darker blue much like the seat surrounds. The lower band of the dash shows some surface rust and presents in lighter blue painted metal. Utilitarian rubber floors, the original steering wheel, and above is a stippled pattern vinyl headliner, showing slight staining and a tear.
Drivetrain
A 302ci V8 in blue is under the long hood, and has an automatic transmission on back. This engine has been totally resealed this year and the transmission was rebuilt at the same time. A new radiator needed to be put in too and has been done!
Undercarriage
Half and half would best describe the undercarriage, with half sprayed in black and the back half left to age with the car. The back shows some patina and surface rust, has the torque boxes replaced, and some rocker repairs in the form of a plate. There still exists some invasive rust on the driver's side rocker only at the very bottom. Drum brakes are all around and seen on the floorpans are some repairs with putty or some sort of goo at the seams.
Drive-Ability
It started up, and drive nicely. Brakes are pretty good for their age, and the car was able to cruise at highway speeds.
A 1 family owned car, original paint showing a bit of aging, newer interior, and some repairs to the undercarriage. Engine maintenance and transmission rebuild this year, and a new radiator and you're ready for another 100K of fun, 1969 style.
