1986 Ford Mustang LX Convertible Description

Some major house repairs are forcing the sale of the toy. It is a 1986 Ford Mustang LX Convertible. Sad for me as I just got this car all updated and ready for top down fun. This is the v6 model with a 3spd Automatic. 3.8l fuel injection. Runs like a champ. I know I know some people are all about the v8. This v6 moves the car very well. I would see the v8 as being dangerous especially in the hands of a kid. I love the car. Not many 30 year year old cars have 99% of their parts still available. Being a Fox Body Mustang, everything is pretty much available online. That is why I bought it. Most cars from the 80's you cannot find parts for anymore. But a Mustang....no problemo!
The car has a 5-digit odometer. It currently shows 2600 miles on it. According to the prior owner and the history on Carfax/Autocheck, it is 102,6xx. It has been a toy for most of its life, hence the low miles. It was repainted 10 years ago and had a new top put on 10 years ago. Only paint issues are on the lower front air dam where it was rubbed on a parking space barrier. Paint looks great. Top looks and works great. Power actuator was replaced about a year ago.
Being Fuel Injected, the car fires right up. No Carb fussiness to worry with. Being 30 years old, the AC does not work. It is all there if someone wants to convert it. But, hey, it is a convertible. Who drives around with the top down and air on? :-) I commute 30mi 1-way to work (twisty country roads and super highways) regularly in it with zero trouble. The car runs great. Mileage will be higher as I am driving the car everyday up until it is sold. I personally would have no qualms about driving the car anywhere. That said, I make no warranty to that affect should you decide to fly in and drive it home. It is a 30yr old car. I have AAA for that reason. I have a great mechanic and our cars are well maintained, but machines break. Usually, without warning.
Recent work...
New Shocks in the rear
New Struts up front
New ball joints
New Wheel Bearings front
4-wheel alignment
New Walker Muffler and exhaust pipe plus heat shield
New Secondary Air Injection Pipe
New Oil Pressure Sender
New Low Oil Sensor and Cable
4 new Top end BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires (less than 500 miles on them). The car has the 15" wheel upgrades for 1986 which is a good thing for handling and tire shopping. The original 14" wheels are harder to find tires for these days. The original 14" wheels comes with the car. I opted to spend the extra $200 on getting the best tires for the car rather than the cheapest as it is a Mustang. The suspension pieces were not the economy parts, why skimp on tires. Handling is fantastic.
New Headlights (boy were the old ones dim!) and properly aligned.
For my own piece of mind and to help you want to buy the car, I ran it through a MD State Inspection (one of the toughest in the country). It does not require one due to its age if being tagged Historic here in MD like I have it taggged, but I still like to know and disclose as part of the sale. It did not pass because the drivers window screeches when going down (regulator wear). Also, the 30 year old steering weeps fluid, so that did not pass. The inspection does not allow any leaking. The steering does not leave any spots on the ground. The car does not leave any spots! Still, those issues kept it from passing. My mechanic had no worries about either for my regular nice weather driving.
Other aches and pains, the rear windows do not go up and down on their own. The parts are available online. I put off the window work in favor of seriously rebuilding the suspension and replacing the tires worn out by the tired old suspension. I opted to get the best tires out there, not the cheapest.
I also have a replacement dash pad which comes with the car. It has been dyed blue to match the car's interior. Just needs to be installed. The old dash is sun worn. I have a box of misc. parts that will come with the car.
This is probably the best and most sorted 30 year old car you find. I have laid it all out. The good, the bad. No games. Just a great old car which is a blast to drive, looks great and when needed, parts are easy to find for it. Car must be paid for before it leaves. BWI is the closest airport if you want to fly in a drive it home. I can pick you up there. Shipping is 100% your responsibility. I will assist where I can on this end but full payment must be made (and cleared) before handing the car over to the shipper.
