Rare 1958 GMC 100 NAPCO half ton 4x4. I believe this to be a factory-built NAPCO, it still has "4WD" factory chalk marks on the cowl. Transfer case crossmember is riveted, t-case shifter hole is factory, and it has the 5600 GVW. Desirable factory V8 truck with positraction rear end and electric wipers, this was as good as it got in 58. The truck lived a typical western life of hauling hay bales and mending fence on a large ranch in the dry Montana high desert, land of the sagebrush and prickly pear cactus. I've owned it for a little over a year and had some fun with it, but recently bought a couple of very low mile early Chevy 4x4s out of an estate, and since I'm not Jay Leno, need to sell this truck to fund that purchase. I don't think you'll find another like this one, great truck for your gentleman's ranch, or have the only one at Cars N Coffee. Prepare to be mobbed at the gas station!
Exterior: Original paint survivor wearing some great patina, very dry with only minor rust. This is arid country and the truck has never seen salt. See detail pics in Photobucket album linked below. Pretty straight for a 60-year old truck, a few dents, one on top of driver side fender, one in cab roof and tailgate is bent. Original wood in bed is intact with some broken spots. Windshield is cracked. Grille emblem and park lights missing, if you're patient they do come up on Ebay. I located a GMC hood emblem, not shown in pics but is included. Driver door hinge is worn and you have to slam driver door to close it. Overall good survivor to restore or drive as is while you sort it.
Interior: Original in good condition, factory seat has been redone and looks great. Again, very clean for a 60 year old truck. Gauges are sun baked but working, speedo is non-op, so not sure of the actual mileage. Very dry truck with only a couple of minor rust spots on driver floor, see detail pics in Photobucket album linked below. Area above windshield where all these Task Force trucks rust is dry and clean on this one. Haven't sorted all the lights and accessories, that will need to be done before driving.
Mechanical: Starts, runs, drives and stops fine. Truck hadn't run for years when I got it, the following work was done to bring it up to driver status:
New fuel tank and sending unitOil changed and trans, t-case and diffs checked and filledBrakes bled, u-joints replaced on trans to t-case driveshaft
New fuel pump, new coolant and thermostat (heater core bypassed)
New battery and alternator (converted to alternator by previous owner)All chassis, steering, and driveshaft zerks cleaned and greasedNew spark plugs and brakes bled
Engine was upgraded to the more robust 1959 336 motor when the original 336 gave up. A real gem of a powerplant, it's a GMC branded underbored 389 Pontiac- very torquey. Mileage unknown on the motor, runs smooth and quiet with no major leaks. Does smoke a bit at startup, but it's getting better the more I run it. 4x4 works in high and low range and truck still has the original hubs. I've driven it a few times up to approx 40-45 mph. I didn't go any faster as bias ply 7.50-16 traction tires are old and cracked, and they follow every rut. Posi rear end works. Lights and accessories have not been sorted, haven't hooked up heater core. It's an old truck, and old trucks need work, that's part of the fun in this hobby.
Misc: Includes NAPCO shop manual and vintage Hi-Lift jack that came with the truck. Title is clear and in my name. If you've been looking for a NAPCO, you know that prices on these trucks are nutty. They are rare and don't come up often in good condition. This truck will sell, NO RESERVE.
