1977 International Harvester Scout Traveller Description

Thank you for checking out my 1977 International Harvester Scout II traveller! This truck is a ton of fun.
Absolutely runs like a top and has ZERO mechanical issues, I've spent over 15k solving them all LOL.
It's a tank, and it rides like butter over the insanely bad streets of the northeast. Ride like a road warrior! WITNESS.
Originally a California truck its now an ultra rare rust free example in the northeast.

1977 International Scout II Traveler edition (this Scout is a foot & a half longer than the regular Scout II, so there is 4+feet cargo room behind the back bench seat, or over 6' with the rear seat folded up). This Scout was modified for 4 wheeling, yet can do a comfortable 80+ MPH on the freeway. It drives nice and easy on the streets, yet can drive over tree trunks and boulders off-road. Brand new Chrysler Torqueflite Transmission with overdrive and Brand new Transfer case. 3300 in work.

New 345 (bulletproof) V-8 engine installed 35,000 miles ago. (this is the only 4X4 vehicle that drives better than a stick off-road). 410 gears with OX lockers front and rear. Special Low/Low gears for extreme rock crawling. Dana 44 differentials with added support trusses and pumpkin rock guards welded on. Rancho leaf springs, bushings, shocks and body lift on 33" tires which are still new k02's the absolute best on/off road tires. Power steering and power brakes. with brand new brake booster. Front disc, rear drum, like new. Extra electric fan on radiator for hot days.
extras:
33 gallon rock proof gas tank for long off-road trips.
Front heavy-duty custom made push bumper with built-in 140 PSI air tank.
Heavy-duty rear bumper with High jack which can hold 5 gallons of spare motor oil.
Both front and rear bumpers have a trailer hitch which accepts a Warn M6000 winch (included in custom holder in bed, near tailgate) which is wired for front, or rear bumper with remote hand held control.
Hidden lockable large compartment under rear folding bench seat.
Padded four point roll bar with center utility light.
Fully convertible with a Softopper roof. Rear and side panels can be rolled up in the summer for more breeze while keeping shade overhead.
Interior floor and side panels are coated with bedliner so the interior can be washed out with a garden hose after trail or camping trips.
The exterior has a new paint job MAD MAX style, but please keep in mind that this is an off-road vehicle. I did not fix all the dents, rather just paint over them. Over the last 20 years, I put my money into the mechanics of this vehicle, not the body. You will see in the photos that I did not use to care if I had to scrape a rock or tree limb while 4-wheeling. I mainly had it painted just to get it looking one color again. Now, it looks great from a far and even pretty close, but please know this was not a professional paint job. There are faults if you look really close, but honestly this isnt a bling bling truck, this is a truck that gets it done.
On the mechanics side, everything works. All marker lights and dash gauges are original and functional. All bolt on pumps and pulleys were new when motor was replaced (again, only 33,000 miles on the new engine). Oversized alternator, marine battery, electronic point kit and four barrel carburetor with 4to2 dual exhaust. Everything works on this vehicle and it drives nice. The stereo was high-tech when installed 20 years ago (it is a detachable faceplate Blaupunkt cassette/stereo, with 100 watt Amp and good quality front and rear triaxial speakers, at the time they were installed. Hood rigged aux jack for your phone to play music.

Keep in mind this is a classic V-8 International. It is heavy duty farm equipment style. They still make the same engine for school buses today.
I have always warmed it up at least 5 minutes before driving in the morning. The old steel engine blocks are basically bullet-proof, but they need to be warmed up to best preform. Weirdly enough though, once warmed up once in the morning, it can do quick starts throughout the day and is very powerful. This Scout has a smooth ride and can also turn on a dime. This was my daily driver for 20 years and I loved it. I'd really like to sell it to someone that loves off-roading and the more difficult trails. It's been modified for the toughest trails and this vehicle loves the challenges. It has never been stuck and often helps pull out others (Jeeps) found stuck on the trails.
There are two downsides: first is that I removed the AC and cruise control units when I changed out the engine seven years ago.
The other is that it honestly needs a new exhaust, there are a few small leaks, it runs just fine, and really its purely an aesthetic thing since these motors make almost no back pressure anyway.
This vehicle is just plain fun to drive.
