1978 International Harvester Scout Description

1978 SCOUT 2 BUILT IN AUSTRALIA (all tags are on the truck)

I have owned this truck for 20 years. I bought the truck in a town called Wollongong about 40 miles south of Sydney, Australia and have driven her up and down the east coast of Australia and into the Outback. I have never gotten stuck or broken down once. This truck has been well maintained and was rebuilt in 2003. This truck has even been to the top of Fraser Island which is a tough place to get to and you need a real tough truck to get you there. What a joy this vehicle has been. I imported the truck into the USA back in 2012 and the truck was kept in storage until now. The truck runs on both LPG and gas as in Australia gas is expensive and LPG is half price. The problem is that if you leave the beaten track you have no access to LPG so dual fuel is a must. The rebuild entailed a new motor, tires, diff ratios, transmission, lift kit, anti rust unit, carpet kit, roll bar cage, extra back seats, and a 20 gallon LPG tank just to get started. I wanted some balls under my foot so the first thing to go was the high torque slow as hell 345 international motor which I replaced with a stroker 355 Chrysler motor strapped to a 727 Torqueflite tranny. What a truck! I have listed the work done to the truck since removing it from storage. I needed a lot of new parts and a new transmission was also put into the truck. This truck is not perfect but is a very nice ride. Good luck and I hope to see the truck on the road.

PS all parts marked NEW were replaced since the truck came out of storage. All the other parts were built when the truck was rebuilt.
