1975 International Harvester Scout Description

Frame off mechanical restoration preserves the vast majority of the original design.The main goals of this build were to enhance drivability, reliability, and safety while preserving original character.The general aim of this build was to complete 100,000 maintenance free miles of reliable operation and adventure. Travels and explores any terrain at any altitude thanks to modernized computer controlled fuel system, conservative but capable componentry, and intrinsic off road ability.

Every bolt on this vehicle was turned as part of the build process.All surface rust was removed from the major parts, which were painted black. Nearly every component has been fully replaced with new or fully rebuilt.The body panels and interior have generally been left alone, but are in great shape; an inclined owner could modernize to personal taste or intent. Scout has been gently driven for approximately 750 miles, assuming engine break will occur at around 1000. Starts, runs, and handles flawlessly and reliably.

Engine and Exhaust:

IH 5.7 L 345 tank cleaned, machined, and factory spec rebuild with all new internals/peripherals; stock cam profile; Painted IH Red.New RPT rebuildable engine mounts. New Flywheel ring. Engine compartment cleaned and painted with black high temperature paint. New factory spec dual exhaust, mufflers, and mounts.

Fuel and Electrical:

New complete 2 bbl TBI Fuel Injection kit chipped for IH 345. New DUI high voltage distributor/ignition with internal coil. Accessible electric fuel pump. New fuel sending unit and fuel lines.Fuel tank dip cleaned and internally coated. New Starter. New alternator. New battery. Heavy Skid plate.

Transmission and Transfer Case:

Borg Warner 4 Speed Transmission. New Clutch. New RPT rebuildable transmission mount. Dana 20 transfer case.

Axles and Wheels:

Dana 44 front and rear axles 3:54 ratio. Front axle cut and turned to correct castor and pinion angle.New Custom front drive shaft w/ zerk fitting.New Warn hubs.New axle seals/gaskets.New ball joints and wheel bearings.New axle U bolts. Complete spare front and rear axle set included with purchase.Upgraded rims, all terrain tires, and full size spare.

One would be hard pressed to find a Scout that has been more thoroughly and thoughtfully designed and built.This is not a flipped clunker or bait and switch polished piece of junk claiming to be original and sought after. This is a solid ride with a clear title that will probably last 40 more years and go to hell and back if one were so inclined. This vehicle currently has 5 year collector registration in Colorado.
