1990 Jaguar XJS Convertible Description

This beautiful car has been sitting in a garage in the semi arid climate of Central Texas for probably 15 years or so. When we rolled it out, it was sporting a "Bush for Governor" bumper sticker, to give you an idea. The car is in very good condition, but the years of lack of use have predictably taken their toll. In short, I'd describe it as a very nice survivor that can be a good driver with a bit of work. The odometer shows around 18k miles. There is a sticker inside the driver's door that certifies that the speedometer was changed at 27k. We believe the 45k total is accurate, but since the car is over 10 years old, the title will be transferred as miles exempt. When we pulled it out of the barn, our goal was to make it a runner in order to be able to describe it accurately for sale. We've done that, and I'll attempt to be as detailed as possible. It is owned by a local attorney, who is the second owner. I'm handling the sale for him. He has the clear Texas title and is available for any transfer paperwork that may be required.
The Good News:
It runs, although it could certainly use a full tune up. I've had it up to about 45 to run through the gears of the automatic transmission and all seems OK. It needs some brake work, so going faster isn't wise. Tires have good tread and hold air well, but I wouldn't trust them due to sheer age. The power top mechanism works well. Paint and chrome are really excellent. I can't find any repaint on the car at all, and all of the original vin tags are there with no signs of over-spray (see pics). Being a Central Texas car it's whole life, you'll find it to be virtually corrosion free. Interior is very nice with just a little minor wear from getting in and out of the driver's seat (pictured). Wood trim is excellent with no cracking or crazing of the finish.
The Bad:
The air conditioning does not cool. I haven't checked for Freon, but it does appear to have been converted to 134a. The driver's window does not go down, and the right rear window, after cycling a couple of times refuses to go up. The car pulls significantly under braking indicating at least one malfunctioning caliper. There is a clunk from the left front when moving that seems to be in time with the rotation of the wheel. Probably another symptom of a frozen caliper contacting the disk. The convertible top has a slit in it in the center near the front (pictured). A real shame since the top is in excellent shape otherwise. The hood support struts are weak and the hood has to be propped up.
