Atalanta (in Greek mythology this Goddess was renowned for her swiftness of foot). Atalanta Motors was a very prestigious motor car company before the war (WWII). Postwar, Major Richard G. Shattock (RGS) purchased the company because of its wonderful suspension and frame design, so he could manufacture premium automobiles and race cars. These cars were equipped with Bentley, Aston Martin, Lea Francis, Lincoln 12 cylinder and Jaguar engines. Most Atalantas were built to specification by the new owner which would select which supplied components to use. This is one of the few rare factory works cars. Own one of the five famous racing marques that were powered by Jaguar engines: Atalanta, Cooper, HWM, Lister and Tojeiro.
This vintage race car is in restored condition. Still has its original alloy body (most Atalantas were fiberglass), frame with unique suspension and Jaguar Racing engine. Motor number for RGS Atalanta Jaguar is F-1632-8. Talked with Jaguar Archives and confirmed that the engine was built in 1953. Highly modified at the time with special valves and fitted with a 16 quart oil sump, racing Warren Pearce intake manifold with triple SU H-8 Sandcast carburetors.I have corresponded with some of the auction houses and classic car dealers in GB (appx 3 years ago) and they have a general consensus that UKL 852 would be valued at no less tan $1,500,000. and possibly much higher if allowed to go to auction in the UK.The builders son Dr Shattock is currently compiling a coffee table book on RGS Atlantas and my car UKL 852. This is the only alloybodied (original) one I know in existence. The alloy body is a materpiece, and has more tube framing than a birdage Maserati!
