1971 Jeep CJ Description

Up for bid.....1971 Jeep CJ5 with the 225 Dauntless V-6, 3 speed manual transmission, warn overdrive unit and PTO.

This is a really good old Jeep. All the paint is original and I was told it has less than 30,000 original miles but it is not documented and there is no way to verify as the speedometer is not working.

It easily starts, idles, runs, drives, shifts and stops good. The motor has a lot of low end torque and runs strong. These engines came with a 2 bbl Rochester carb factory dual exhaust and were rated at 155 hp. It is a great running Jeep!

For some odd reason, apparently someone, sometime ago took out the parking brake and also installed a separate toggle switch to power the ignition/alternator. The Jeep still starts with the ignition key.

I was told that the rear gas tank has a small leak so it was disconnected and is no longer used. The tank under the driver seat is the only tank in use. There is no working gas gauge. I use a dip stick to monitor the gas level.

It appears that the Jeep never had a rear seat. It does however, have a nice factory made toolbox that sits on the floor and goes up over the fender wells. It fits tight between and up over the fender wells but isn't bolted in and has no holes drilled in the floor.

This Jeep is really fun to drive as you can split each gear with the warn OD unit in high or low range and in 2 or 4 wheel drive. It’s really cool!

This Jeep would really be a good one to restore or enjoy as is. It has minor body damage on right side front cowl and a couple of spots of rust on the side area. Under side has no rust. It has been in Wyoming since the mid 70’s. Wyoming is a very dry climate and they don't salt the roads.

It appears that the Kelly manufacturing metal hard top has been on the Jeep since the Jeep was new or shortly thereafter as it still has all original carpet in rear. The hard metal top and doors make it amazingly snug and warm with a good working heater inside the cab. No flapping wind noise like the soft tops have even at highway speeds.

Goodyear radial tires are nearly new.

This is a really great Jeep, not a perfect Jeep. It drives really good down the interstate at highway speeds. It runs like a top and it is an all original classic! Because it is all original NOT RESTORED, REBUILT or REFURBISHED in any way, and is 47 years old, after being driven it does leave a few drips of oil in the driveway.
