1980 Jeep CJ7 Base Sport Utility 2-Door 4.2L
1980 Jeep CJ7 Description
You are bidding on a 1980 Jeep CJ7. This is my personal ride, I drive it a few times per week. You have to be a bit more committed to drive a Jeep like this; this Jeep only bares a faint resemblance to the soccer-mom style Jeeps that are sold today. That being said, it is still capable of being a daily driver, and making long commutes. I have regularly driven it on 100+ mile trips. I purchased this Jeep in April of 2011; it was essentially a barn find. It had 68,297 miles on the odometer at time of purchase. I have no way of knowing the accuracy of the mileage prior to my purchase. I have made the following repairs / improvements since that time:
APRIL 2011
-Rebuilt front differential
-4WD service
-Front & rear brakes and bearings
-Replaced U-joints
-Rear pinion seal
-New fuel lines
-New fuel tank
-New steering wheel
JUNE 2011
-New BF Goodrich 31x10.50R15 All-Terrain tires (all 5 tires replaced)
JULY 2011
-New heavy duty leaf springs and shocks all around
-Bumpers re-powder coated
-Bestop seat covers & center console added
-Floor plan coated in Duraliner bed liner
-Stainless steel headlight, parking light, and tail light guards added
-Shifter and transfer case lever boots replaced
-Kenwood CD player and Kenwood in-dash speakers added
AUGUST 2011
-2 KC Daylighters added
-Roll bar grab handles
-New front drive shaft
-New Bestop softop
-New Bestop bikini top
-Stainless steel hand turn windshield bolts--you can drop the windshield in seconds for an instant safari!
APRIL 2012
-New battery
JULY 2012
-Parking brake assembly replaced
OCTOBER 2013
-Tires rotated and balanced; rotate spare to drive (5000 miles on the new tires at this point)
-Dash wiring replaced; all dash lights and gauges now operational
JULY 2014
-Rear drive shaft replaced
AUGUST 2014
-Brake master cylinder replaced
MAY 2015
-Carburetor replaced
MAY 2016
-Spark plugs, wires, and distributor cap replaced
The majority of this work was professionally done; I only performed cosmetic repairs. The only major mechanical repair I performed personally was replacing the shocks and springs, and I performed some of the minor work as well. I have changed the oil and filter every 2500 miles. This Jeep has always been garaged since I purchased it. The full soft top and rear windows are new, but the frame for the top and soft doors are not. But both the frame and soft doors are in great condition.
I have never significantly off-roaded this Jeep; I took it to the Southwest Missouri Off-Road Ranch one time last year, but never got off of the class 1 or 2 trails. For the approximately 10,000 miles I have driven it, I would guess 9500 of them have been on the pavement, and the rest on gravel roads. The main thing I like to do is drive it to the Buffalo River in NW AR and cruise the gravel roads. I do not doubt its off-road capabilities, as it is a Jeep, but I have had no interest in tearing anything up. It would be a great vehicle to take to the beach or the lake. It is in good enough shape to look good, but it's not so nice that you can't take it into the woods, or worry about it getting wet. I take the soft top off in March each year and never put it back on until October. I let it get wet, I just don't let it stay wet. I've taken very good care of this Jeep since I have had it.
This has been, and will continue to be, a great vehicle. I still drive it on short trips almost daily during the warmer months. I receive compliments almost every time I drive it. You can take this Jeep and drive it home if you'd like. Although I'm not sure I'd want to drive it across the country, but it could be a fun adventure. I am sad to see it go, but it just doesn't fit in my life as much as the cash would. I hope it goes to a good home that will love it as much as I have.
Please don't hesitate to contact me with questions. I will answer them to the best of my ability. I can send pictures and videos if you'd like, but please don't ask if you are not a serious buyer.
