1989 Land Rover Defender Description

1989 Land Rover Defender 90 Pickup, 2.5L 4-cylinder Diesel Turbo, 5-speed manual transmission, 4-wheel drive transfer case with high and low ratio gears and differential locks, power assisted steering, 94,000 miles. Vehicle was imported from England. Please note, it is right-hand drive.

The vehicle is off-road prepared and fitted with snorkel, roll-over bar, front A-Bar with spotlights, rear bumperettes, rock / tree sliders, steering guard, front and rear axle guards, light guards, tools / equipment lockable storage box, high-lift jack, steel wheels (new) fitted with matching Insa Turbo mud-terrain tires in excellent condition. Vehicle is ready to go have some off-road fun!

The vehicle starts, runs, drives and stops as good as a 30 year old Land Rover should do and there are no obvious fluid leaks from anywhere. The power assisted steering is very positive with little free play. Brakes are very good and pull up nice and square. Transmission shifts smoothly through all gears and clutch operation is good. Engine is quiet and pulls strong with no noticeable smoke, however, the low oil pressure warning light comes on at idle / low rpm’s when the engine is warmed up.

It has been well maintained over the years and comes with a large history file of receipts and work carried out.

Bodywork is very straight and tidy. Original color was blue (can be seen in interior pics) and was also red at some point but has since been repainted in its current satin finish yellow (to a good standard) with contrasting black roof and black aluminum diamond plate on the fenders. Both doors are in good rust free condition. There is a small area of corrosion at the left rear chassis / crossmember area. To rectify this the vehicle would benefit from installation of a new rear crossmember (with extensions.) This repair section is readily available from Land Rover parts suppliers and an easy DIY repair if you can weld.

Interior is very clean and tidy with cloth seats, cubby box, CB Radio (UK frequency), floor mats. Dash pad is cracked in several places and would benefit from replacement.

Overall this is a great Land Rover fully prepared for some off-road fun! An appreciating classic with plenty of life left!
