1934 Lincoln KB 7-Passenger Willoughby Limousine Description

1934 Lincoln KB 7-Passenger Willoughby Limousine

Very rare Lincoln KB Willoughby custom open roof limousine! One of one produced on the 277-B platform and all numbers matching! Excellent features that include dual side mounts, intercompartment intercom system, rear trunk, heater, and more! Very special example!

After the start of the Great Depression, many manufactures were left trying to streamline production and cut costs. All the while still designing cars with styling appeal for those who could still afford them. By 1931, Lincoln began the K Series offering a V8 atop a 145” wheelbase, and quickly adopted a V12 in 1932 to stay competitive with other luxury manufacturers. This divided the K-Series into the smaller 136” chassis fitted with a V8 as the KA, and the 145” V12 chassis as the KB. With Lincoln well established in the luxury automobile field, it adopted two variants of the V12 in 1933, and by 1934 streamlined the same 414ci V12 power plant into both KA and KB models, distinguished only by their wheelbase now. The larger KB was offered to buyers in a wide variety of body options, and semi-custom bodies offered by executive coach builders such as Willoughby, Brunn, Judkins, and LeBaron.

Offered here is a one-of-a-kind custom 1934 Lincoln KB 277-B Open Roof Limousine by Willoughby of Utica, New York. Finished in gorgeous color combination of Royal Blue with accenting Black fenders and beltline, it truly highlights the shapely curves of the body perfectly! Power comes from its original 414ci L-Head V12 producing 150 horsepower transmitted through a 3-speed floor-shifted manual transmission. Features on this special custom include a full vinyl roof that folds forward to expose a large sunroof opening for the rear occupants, divider glass partition window, rear jump seats, inter-compartment intercom, added turn signals, rear seat radio controls (no longer functional in lieu of a under dash heater in its original mounting position), rear window sun shades, foot rest, reading lamps, clock, and rope assist handle. On the exterior, it is fitted with dual side mounted spares with steel covers, dual rearview mirrors, leaping Greyhound hood ornament, rear luggage rack with trunk, cowl ventilation, and Trippe driving lamps that operate along with the steering controls to illuminate turns.

Only 743 Lincoln KB’s were built in 1934, and this 277-B Willoughby represents one of only 77 produced, and the additional of the custom opening roof makes it the only one like it! This car hails from the Christman estate, and later made its way to Ohio in 2003 when purchased by Ernest Henry who loving cared for this already brilliantly restored example. The paint is said to be some 25 years old, as is the rear passenger compartment upholstery. Even upon close inspection, many will argue it to be much more recent due to its remarkable condition. The paint remains wonderfully smooth with plenty of depth and gloss, stunning chrome from front to back, and an interior free of any visible wear. The front leather seat was said to be original, and it too, appears spectacular. While in the care of Mr. Henry, he choose the renowned Pebble Beach awarded team at D&D Classic Auto Restoration of Covington, OH to handle a complete engine overhaul in 2004. It received brand new pistons & rings, intake & exhaust valves, balanced crankshaft, new bearings, new aluminum heads, and more to the end cost of $28,000. Today, you would be hard pressed to find a smoother, quicker starting Lincoln V12 engine that idles this nicely! With ample power and virtually instant throttle response, it is an absolute pleasure to take down the road! Add in the Equal-Action two shoe servo type braking system, and this 5,605lb car comes to an easy stop all the same!

Mr. Henry also asked Sew What Interiors of Dayton, OH to replace the unique retracting top in 2008, and the results are nothing short of show worthy. With hidden metal zippers along each side, and snaps along the rear, it remains largely unnoticed to the novice onlooker. Only when the roof is rolled forward, and the special boot in place does one see the transformation of the open rear compartment. They also added a perfectly fitted matching trunk cover as well. A stunning presentation of a vehicle whether the roof is open or closed. In addition to the outstanding running capacity of the engine and drivetrain, we would add that all dash instrumentation is fully functional, all lights inside & out, as well as the buzzer and intercom speaker. Included with the car will be service records from D&D Classic Auto coving the engine rebuild, addition of the directional Trippe lights, and new tires installed in 2014. Also provided are a special roof insulator to lay between the two separate roof layers along with a support bar, storage car cover, and boot storage bag. We invite any interested buyers to schedule a viewing appointment as soon as possible, or call with any questions and offers. We look forward to working with you on this very special automobile!
