1937 Lincoln Willoughby Description

For the past 20 years I have been the owner of this1937 Willoughby Lincoln 7 Passenger Touring car. There were 7 Willougby 7 passenger touring cars made in 1937. Only 3 are surviving. The other two surviving cars were purchased by the State of California and State of New York for VIP parades. It was one of the most expensive cars that could be purchased in its day. It is a custom aluminum body on a very heavy Lincoln chassis (weighing over 6,000 pounds).

This car was originally made for a wealthy banker by the name of Russell Leffingwell. Mr. Leffingwell was the Chairman of the Board for JP Morgan - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russell_Cornell_Leffingwell

Leffingwell used the car for travel to his summer house on Lake George, NY. In the mid-1940s the car broke an axle while transporting his wife to Lake George and it was promptly sold to Curtis Blake who was the founder of Friendly's Ice Cream and is an avid car collector. My grandfather acquired the car from Blake in the late 1950s/early 1960s. He purchased it sight unseen as he knew the car because Leffingwell was a neighbor in Oyster Bay, Long Island. I purchased the car from my Grandfather's estate in 1998.

I had roughly $45,000 worth of work done on the car in 2001/2002. It was taken down to metal and repainted original color (black), new wire harness, new leather, new chrome, new roof.

The car is body #8349 and has engine #7758. The V-12 engine is an original 1937 engine. The only modification to the car has been an electric fuel pump.

The car is very original and has extremely good bones.

This is a rare opportunity to acquire this car as there are only 3 remaining and this has not been offered for sale in almost 60 years.
