V12 Convertible from long term storage. Well preserved older restoration

1946 Lincoln Continental Description

1946 Continental Cabriolet. According to records we found with the car, it had been been refinished in the 1970s and put into storage around '74, where it sat until '97. Previous owner brought it back to life and drove the car sparingly during the 2000's. Its been sitting since around 2007, and I bought the car last year from the owner's estate. He was a detail oriented caretaker and and left some receipts and notes with the car.

After purchasing the Continental, I checked it over and it took very little effort to get the car running again. Its currently lot-drivable with a small gas tank hooked up to the carb. The brakes are stiff but stop the car. Tires all hold air. We have a couple hours run time on the engine and it runs smoothly and quietly, keeps good oil pressure and does not overheat. Clutch is good and trans shifts nicely. I can provide a video of it running

Engine appears to be the original unit and the overdrive transmission is intact but untested.

Previous owner installed a 6V alternator and ammeter on the engine. He also replaced one window lift cylinder.

Hydraulic power windows work. Lights and gauges work except fuel. It will need a fuel pump and the fuel tank should probably be flushed to make the car roadworthy. (there's also an electric pump which I may have working soon).

Trunk is full of small parts and hardware including the radio.

Paint appears to be black lacquer and should clean up very nicely. It does have some scuffs and scratches all over from storage. There is some cracked paint on the body just above the rear fenders and some chips/fading around the windshield frame. Cloth top isn't brittle or torn and but it has yellowed from age. Chrome is shiny but has some weathered spots on the bumper. Grille and headlight bezels aren't pitted.

I haven't done anything to the finish or even wiped the dust off - the car looks exactly as we found it.

The body is clean with no signs of significant rust repair or panel replacement. Someone may have replaced the flat portion of the drivers floor pan but I can't be certain about that. Doors open and close nicely.

Door bottoms, rocker panels, inner fenders, etc are rust free. The only rust through I've found is a small 1" long spot in the corner of the frame X-crossmember where it collected crud over the years. (see link for at the bottom for photos). Overall it looks like his has always been a clean, solid car.

Interior is complete minus the front carpet. Material appears original but seat has a tear in the base. Passenger door panel was removed by previous owner when he replaced the window cylinder, but it is included.

Note: The car has a clean Ohio title, but at some point in its life the car was titled and registered by its engine number "2GH6050". The correct frame serial number is H145519.

The Lincolnwas professionally appraised at $32k by the estate of the prior owner and I can provide a copy to prospective buyers. Reserve is very reasonable - below 20k. I will miss this car but am excited just to have been able to enjoy it for awhile.

Update - I cleaned the mechanical pump and it will draw fuel from a canister so the car can be driven longer distances. Had it out on the street for a couple blocks and it drives and steers really well!Brakes stop the car but aren't 100%.Windows and top raise and lower.Please see Flickr link above for updated photos.Looking more closely at the floors, the flat portion where the driver and passenger's feet sit have been replaced, and the work is acceptable. There are no other signs of heavy rust repair or damage.
