1991 Lotus Elan M100 - Rare - great condition 65K miles
1991 Lotus M100 Black Description
1991 Lotus Elan M100 - US Edition
SPRING IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER! Only 550 Elan M100s were ever sold in the United States. Only 357 in Calypso red. The Lotus Elan M100 is the only Front Wheel Drive Lotus ever made. It is a smooth handling fun to drive car and does not feel like a front wheel drive car... very neutral and peppy. The turbocharge upgrade and chip gives it a nice power feel when you need it for spirited driving. Exhaust has a nice raspy sound but not loud or annoying. Low mileage, garage kept and well maintained.
Classic Lotus design with no mechanical issues, no leaks, no rust and kept in good order. Interior and carpets in VERY good condition. Car has fresh paint (5 months ago), new leather seat covers, timing belt, water pump, cam seals, and English all aluminum radiator. There are many spare parts that go with the car (see below).
Upgrades(Note: These are ALL the things you do to a Lotus M100 to make it fun, dependable and a pleasure to drive.)
BCN shifter cables, Bob Brown short shifter, Piper pre-cat eliminator, Bob Brown front brake conversion (Subaru rotors, Saturn calipers), Fiero low temp fan switch, Top End Performance blow off valve and intake piping, Kingsborne plug wires, Mercedes auxiliary water pump, full Samco silicone coolant hose kit, O2 sensor, braided turbo oil line and also an Everest chip taking stock engine with turbo from 162 HP to 200+.
Uncomfortable stock seats were replaced with electric 944 seats that blend perfectly (common swap). Kenwood HD stereo with upgraded speakers, all gauges work, AC works but needs a can of (R12) added before mid-summer, fairly new Firestone tires (maybe 1500 miles on them), convertible top is in good condition - clear window and good seals. (There are two very small repair spots on top. A new top is available on-line for $350 but spots are not noticeable and window in rear is clear. I would not replace the top.)
Additional Features and Spares30 mpg (premium fuel only). Fun and enjoyable cruiser... comfortable and dependable. Clean title.Complete extra set of wheels and tires, Car Cover, extensive Notebook of what has been done to car, manuals, mag articles, literature, wiring diagrams, touch-up paint and 2 large bins of new and used spares parts.
Notes As the car was manufactured and sold in England for 8 years, repair parts in are available online (in US and in UK) and there are many resource forums, videos and articles available for free on-line. This Lotus is an affordable rare collector car you can drive and enjoy while it grows in value. Over the last 4 years, these cars in good condition went from selling for $10k - $14k to $19k - $24k. Rare, dependable and a pleasure to see on the road. Frequently, I park it at a store, go in and when I come back out, people are standing around taking pictures or asking about the car. I have taken it on several 3-4 hour trips and it behaved perfectly. Cockpit fits a larger driver comfortably and ladies appreciate the ease of getting in and out as opposed to what they find with many other sports cars. Many vintage cars require constant repairs and tedious work to keep them in good running condition. Wiring gets old and chopped up, parts can be hard to find and you are always chasing gremlins. THIS ONE is a modern vintage driving classic with low mileage and you will enjoy driving and owning this car. Buy it and drive it home.
