1994 Mazda RX-7 R2 (Touring Edition)
1994 Mazda RX-7 Touring Edition Description
You are bidding on an immaculate, garage-kept (non-smoker) 1994 Mazda RX-7 that I purchased certified pre-owned off the showroom floor of my local Mazda dealership. It has never been wrecked and has the original Montego paint and complete factory interior. The windshield and transmission have been replaced and are new from Mazda.
Modifications and tuning performed by Rotary Performance in Garland, TX. The engine was rebuilt in 2003 and has approx. 5k miles of both street and track time. Power to the rear wheels was measured at 416hp and the best quarter-mile time clocked in at 11.2 @ 121mph. Maintenance and repairs have been performed at MZM Performance in Austin, TX. Feel free to contact either shop for feedback on the vehicle or worked performed.
The most recent compression test performed in 2014 produced readings in the mid-upper 6s for both rotors. Therefore, if this car is to be operated under high boost, it is recommended the engine be rebuilt to replace the aging apex seals and springs.
That said, the engine does not leak or smoke and is otherwise healthy. Below is a list of all after-market modifications. Included is the factory shop manual, Optima battery charger, and if desired (2) factory wheels with Mickey Thomson ET Street drag radial tires.Engine Management

There are a few things worth mentioning about this vehicle that may be familiar to those with knowledge of the 3rd generation RX-7 as well as the specific upgrades that have been performed:
- AC does not blow cold and will need to be upgraded from R-12 to R-134a if put back into service. All parts checked out operational but the system itself cannot be recharged due to current EPA requirements
- Cruise control is inoperable due to single-turbo conversion
- Fasten Seat Belt warning light continually flashes with the seat sensors connected so I currently have them disconnected
- Can take a few attempts to engage the starter due to battery relocation
- Kaaz rear end makes a clicking sound when performing slow turns. This is normal for this model LSD and can be verified with Rotary Performance or Kaaz.
- Bose stereo works but front speakers have shorted-out and need to be replaced. CD player is operational but skips
- May take several minutes to reach proper idle speed when the engine is started cold. This is due to the specific spark plugs installed that are needed to operate under higher compression
- Rear hatch does not stay open, likely due to worn hydraulic lifts
- Driver door compartment cover is loose but otherwise in good working order
- Smog pump and catalytic converter have been removed so this vehicle will likely not pass emission testing required by certain states
- Front fenders have been rolled to allow for clearance of upgraded front wheels. Therefore if the front suspension bottoms out while turning, the wheels may rub
- Battery should be placed on a trickle charger or disconnected if the car is not driven regularly. Electronic components create a considerable drain on the battery.
- Legroom may be an issue for tall individuals due in part to the addition of the race bar. Race bar is bolted in, not welded, and can therefore be removed.
