TIME CAPSULE
1982 Mazda RX-7 GSL
It's Spring! Get ready for some FUN?
Owned for 31 years by an aircraft mechanic who is now retired at age 81. It's “his baby” and spent all those years in the garagewhen not on the road. She has 58443 miles on the clock. All original paint, OEM wheels, rare leather interior with leather seats, leather wrapped steering wheel and shiftknob. The RX-7 has two panels for the top. One is glass (pictured) and the other is steel and painted to match the body color and stored in a cover in back. Everything works with the exception of the motorized antenna. Interior is very nice with no rips, cracks or tears. All controls work, lights, wipers, cruise, radio, EQ, etc. Clean title in hand, includes owners manual, shop manual, maintenance records, jack and spare.
The RX-7 was a phenomenal success when it came out in 1979! It competed with the Datsun 280Z and Toyota Supra.This1982 model is considered a Series 2 model (1981–1983) and had integrated plastic-covered bumpers, wide black rubber bodyside moldings, wraparound taillights and updated engine control components. While marginally longer overall, the model was135 lb (61 kg) lighter in federalized trim. The four-speed manual was dropped for 1981 in favor of a five-speed, the gas tankgrew larger and the dashboard was redesigned, including a shorter gear stick mounted closer to the driver.
Mazda rotary engines have a reputation for being relatively small and powerful. The enginesbecame popular because of their light weight, compact size, tuning potential stemming and inherently highpower-to-weight ratio- as is true to all Wankel-type engine.
