1985 Mercedes Benz 500 SEC LS1 T56 swap hotrod LS Swap
1985 Mercedes-Benz 500-Series Description
1985 Mercedes Benz 500SEC
This is a euro spec 1985 Mercedes 500 SEC 2 door coupe. In 2001 the engine and transmission was removed and a 1998 z28 Camaro LS1 and T56 transmission was installed. The swap was professionally done to make this vehicle safe and reliable. The computer from the Z28 was carefully integrated into the car to retain the modern EFI performance and dependability. All of the factory Mercedes options including air conditioning have been retained. The steering box was replaced with a more efficient rack and pinion system. Factory Mercedes suspension and braking systems remain and function properly. The swap was completed in 2003 and only accrued about 2500 miles since then. I bought the car in 2012 and put roughly 1500 of those miles on it. The car drives like stock and got 26 mpg on a 750 mile trip. I would not be afraid to drive this car anywhere. The T56 six speed trans and factory Mercedes 3.27 gears allow it to cruise down the highway at any speed comfortably. The LS1 has less than 30,000 miles on it and runs great. The interior is in great shape, the seats were redone prior to me purchasing the car and are in great shape. The dash has a cover because of sun damage and should be replaced if you want it perfect. The sunroof is in place but does not work. The stereo is all aftermarket and from the early 2000’s. Please contact me for any concerns or questions. I can take more pictures if you wish but I would prefer you see the car in person. The car is also for sale locally so if it sells I Will close the auction.
This is car over 30 years old, while it is a very solid vehicle it is not perfect. There is no warrant written or implied. The vehicle drives good and is reliable but like all used vehicles issues can come up. In the time of my ownership it has been a very fun car. I had it on a chassis dyno (Mustang Dyno) back in 05 and it made right at 300 rwhp and I made a couple of passes here at Atlanta Dragway with the best of a 13.70 @ 105 mph
The car was set up for more power down the road, a spec clutch and aftermarket fuel system including all new AN PTFE lines, billet fuel rails and Aeromotive regulator were run. It has a Walbro inline pump but if you upgrade the pump the fuel system could handle well over 1200 hp
Currently the car has a set of 17" aftermarket wheels on it. I also have an original set of 3 piece OZ Aero wheels that can be negotiated in to the deal.
Contact me for any questions you might have or if you would like more pictures.
The car is titled and registered to me in the state of Georgia. Clean title in hand.
VIN# WDB1260441A122839 . I had to use all zeros in the VIN area because eBay wouldn't take the #.
