If you are a Mercedes Expert...pass over this paragraph.
If you've been looking for a R107 560 or a W113 560 they share the same engine and both vehicle really share the sameinherent issues. These are some of the best built cars ever, reliable, durable, rugged, quick, smooth...any really have a lot of class! Now, they are not without fault. Truly, theAchilles heel of these engines is the timing chain and timing chain rails. Regardless of miles, thetiming chain guides are made of plastic and with the youngest examples approaches 30 years old...they are all becoming time bombs. These engines are interference, and well, when one of those guides breaks...and they all break with regular use, you can send your engine to the recycling yard. It blows my mind that there are so many "time bombs" driving around and being sold on eBay. It's a very straightforward fix. Replace the chain and guides with updated units, and they are bulletproof. The problem lies in the fact that most owners see these cars as "they run fine" so leave them alone. Please, if you are in the market for one of these cars, do yourself a favor and buy one that has some paperwork that this $2,500 repair was done, or at least budget that into your cost when considering one.
Aside from that, please...do aCarfax report, these odometers are notoriously unreliable and make sure you have a nice linearaggregation of miles. Secondly, maintenance records arenice to have to back up that aggregation. Moreover, these cars came with a "maintenance book" that should be stamped...with the service and servicing Dealer...make sure you have that.
Alright...now on to this car!
1989 Mercedes 560SEC, 100% original paint, no accidents, garage kept, non smoker car. The exterior is a very rare "Green BluePoly" which cleans up great for being 30 years old. No clearcoat or corrosion issues.
Interior is also excellent for a 89K mile car, no tears, rips, excellent veneers, no tacky aftermarket stereo systems, stained carpets, ect. The floor mats are the originals, with some superficial staining.
Engine runs great, recently serviced with a new radiator, timing chain, guides, front seal, ect. Trans was recently serviced as well. Brakes were rebuilt as well in the last few years. About $4,000 invested in bringing this car up to "drive anywhere" without worry status. Battery is new OEM Mercedes.
I have the 3 original keys, stamped maintenance book, (no window sticker). Car was originally from CA, Spent the past 27 years in OH then to IL
There is a few little things on the car that could use attention:
1 being the headliner is beginning to sag in the rear...some of that "sprayadhesive" should remedy that, although its not bad and never bothered me enough to mess with it.
Secondly, a few of the veneers need to bere-glued on the center consolesliding cupholder contraption. The popsickle sticks.
The wheels are not original to the car, the spare is, and has never hit the ground.
Overall a excellent example of a original sub-100K mile SEC for under 15K in excellent colors, with excellent documentation and pedigree.

Some of the questions I'd ask:
Q:How are the veneers? A:Some of the best I've seen.Q:Does everything work? A: Everything, yes...including the crappy factory Becker tape deck.Q:Are all the VIN Stickers on all the panels? A: You bet ya they are.Q:How is the Chrome? A: Real, real nice.Q:Can I drive it home to California? A:You could, but this car has been driven 2000 miles in the past 10 years...Q:Is the dash cracked? A: No!Q:Hows the bottom? A: Wash the bottom, it'd look like the top.Q:Whats the production Date: 11/88Q:Will you trade? No...Idon't trade.Q:Can I pay you withPayPal? A: No...Q:Do you have the carfax? Yes, I have a current one...dont waste your money.Q:Clean Title...A: AbsolutelyQ:Why are youselling? A: Changed hobbies...need more fun coupons (money)Q:Whatwill you take for it? A: Make me a offer I can't refuse (I watchedThe Godfather tonight)Q:Do You Have Records, maintenance book? A: Yes.Q:Are you a Dealer? A:No, a collector of sorts.

I have the car for sale locally and on other sites, so auction can and will be ended in the event of a local sale.Calls are encouraged...(630) 273 7595
